Project FREEDOM and People Engaged In Recovery (P.E.I.R.) recently extended their efforts to Butler County, Alabama, to train Butler County Sheriff's Office on crucial topics such as 'Opioid Safety, Overdose, and the Use of Naloxone.' Special thanks to the Butler County Sheriff's Office for their active participation. Sheriff departments hold a vital position in combating the opioid epidemic, often being the first at the scene of potential overdoses. Carrying and being trained to administer naloxone can be lifesaving, giving individuals a critical second chance to seek treatment and begin their recovery journey. P.E.I.R. provided invaluable information on the resources available in Alabama for those seeking help and support in battling addiction. Being in-network for a full continuum of care in addiction treatment, including detox, is paramount for several reasons. First and foremost, it ensures that individuals seeking recovery have access to a seamless and comprehensive array of services, eliminating many of the barriers that can impede their progress. With in-network care, patients can transition smoothly from detox to residential programs and beyond, under the umbrella of a single provider, thereby receiving consistent and well-coordinated care. Additionally, being in-network often translates to cost savings and financial predictability for both patients and insurance providers. Addiction treatment can be a lengthy process, and when all aspects of care are covered in-network, it reduces the financial burden on patients and minimizes unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. This approach not only promotes affordability but also encourages individuals to seek the care they need without hesitation, ultimately fostering better outcomes and aiding in the fight against addiction. 😠 Missouri Lawmakers Not Using Opioid Settlement Funds for Proven Psychedelic Therapies I've seen how Iboga works with addiction firsthand. There are Ibogaine clinics that work with addiction.  But Missouri lawmakers don't seem interested in an addiction therapy that works.  Missouri lawmakers decided to pull $10 million earmarked for psilocybin research from the state budget. This decision came after a back-and-forth game where the initial proposal was to fund ibogaine research, which was then switched to psilocybin, and finally, stripped away entirely. The proposal initially aimed to utilize opioid settlement money for exploring the therapeutic potential of psilocybin as a treatment for opioid use disorder. However, the Senate Appropriations Committee decided to remove this allocation, leaving no funding for psychedelic research in the budget. Interestingly, there is still separate legislation moving through the Missouri House and Senate that could legalize medical psilocybin for military veterans and support future research.
