We had such a great and productive time at the PHEMS f2f meeting in always-buzzy London! 🐝
Greeted with a warm welcome from Mat Shaw (Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust CEO) and Andrew Taylor, we dove into everything PHEMS.
And it was very productive! We aligned our strategies, shared our progress, and planned the next steps to bring these innovative solutions to life. The energy and enthusiasm from all the partners made it a truly collaborative and successful event.
A big thank you to all partners for their contributions, and an extra special shoutout to GOSH DRIVE for their amazing hospitality. 🫶

MONDAY MISSION MOMENT:
Each year, 350,000 people in the United States experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA); and approximately 90% die. CPR, if performed immediately, can double or triple the chances of survival.
AHA’S DALLAS IMPACT STORY:
The Health Strategies team at the American Heart Association recently worked closely with Dallas Youth Sports to develop an Emergency Response Plan that would ensure the organization, which serves 3,700
low-income youth ages 4-18, their families, and 900 volunteer coaches in underserved communities of Dallas each year, would have protocols in place in case of an emergency. As part of this plan, all volunteers and staff will be trained in CPR seasonally, and CPR classes will be available for families to take as well. Nearly 5,000 individuals will be impacted through this work in the first year alone.
Your dollars make a difference right here in Dallas.
❤️Please consider making a difference and donating to the American Heart Association through my Leaders of Impact* campaign at:

Your support is appreciated and will help to save lives!

*What is a Leader of Impact?
Every year across 150 cities, community leaders step up to join Leaders of Impact in an effort to bring the work of the American Heart Association into the community. Launching on World Heart Day, nominees across the country work to build campaign plans, recruit teams and inspire their networks to support the AHA’s lifesaving mission.

"Transforming Lives, One Dream at a Time"
We recently partnered with HammondCare, highlighting the incredible impact of The Dreams Project within their palliative care unit.
Each year around 60,000 Australians receive life-changing palliative care, with a majority experiencing significant relief from pain and distress. Yet, the demand for these services is rapidly growing, stretching our healthcare system.
HammondCare's Dreams Project steps in here, granting heartfelt wishes to end-of-life patients, funded solely by generous donations. Our task was to capture the essence of this beautiful initiative.
We crafted a deeply moving video, bringing to light the profound difference each dream makes. This video isn't just a showcase; it's a call to action. It's designed to inspire and encourage benefactors and donors to support this vital cause.
Our production aimed to stir emotions and motivate action, and we believe it does just that. Watch the journey, feel the impact, and join us in making more dreams come true.

As part of our commitment to expand access to quality health care, Helmsley has granted $11.6 million to three health systems in Nevada, bringing life-saving #ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) technology for patients in rural communities suffering from acute cardiac and pulmonary failure.
The availability of ECMO provides timely medical support to those experiencing severe respiratory and cardiovascular distress who face additional challenges around physician shortages, lack of equipment, and geographic barriers to emergency treatment.
The grants will go to Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican Siena Hospital, Renown Health Foundation, and University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC), funding physician and staff travel to active extracorporeal life support centers, training equipment, consultation services, and other tools for program expansion across the state.
“ECMO can be a game changer for patients with severe heart and lung conditions,” said Walter Panzirer, a Helmsley Trustee. “Without ECMO, hospitals have to transfer patients to other facilities, and those who are too unstable for transport could die before receiving needed care.”

Fundraising should be fun!
Starlight Children's Foundation partnered with Sony and Ghostbusters fan groups nationwide (who knew?) on a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign using the Classy platform that exceeded their $40,000 fundraising goal to create and deliver Ghostbuster hospital gowns for kids.
This is an excellent example of a corporate partnership that still feels supporter-led, fun, and ties directly back to the mission.
By focusing on established, passionate fan groups and aligning them with a cause in a tangible way, they avoided the trappings of most corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaigns.
Sony could have easily donated this amount themselves (and maybe they still should!), but by opting for a peer-to-peer format, they put fan groups in the spotlight and empowered them to show the world how generous and awesome they are.
This ultimately benefits Sony more than just dropping a one-time gift of $40K themselves; because of this campaign, fans of the Ghostbusters franchise are now bonded even more closely together.
Using great nonprofit software like Classy is the cherry on top. Classy's P2P product is world-class, and we've used it to great effect at Media Cause with clients like Tap Cancer Out to raise millions of dollars by pitting individual fundraisers and fundraising teams against each other for good causes.

Meet Maryam! 💙
"I'm Maryam, a 16-year-old living in the cozy city of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Life threw me a curveball right after my 14th birthday, when I got hit with the news: type 1 diabetes was now part of the picture.
For the past two years, I've found solace and strength in participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. It's more than just a walk for me. It's a symbol of hope and unity. When I put on those walking shoes, it's not just about me. It's about everyone out there facing the same battles as me.
Raising funds for research is crucial because it's not just about my journey with T1D; it's about the collective hope for a brighter future. Research brings us one step closer to unraveling the mysteries of this condition, offering the promise of better management and, ultimately, a cure. It's an investment in the well-being of not just individuals like me but an entire community facing the challenges of T1D.
A cure would mean freedom from the daily dance with T1D. It would be a liberation from the constant monitoring, the calculations, and the unpredictability. A cure is not just a medical breakthrough; it's the restoration of dreams and the reclamation of a life unburdened by the shadows of T1D.
This is why we Walk — for hope and cures. Join the Walk to help accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications."

When we receive a story about how the service has helped a patient, it really brings home just how vital the NZ Flying Doctor really is.
Last week we heard from Mum Zowie about how her wee boy came into the world. Felix is now 3 and, by all accounts, a happy and thriving little boy, but his start in life was a bit dramatic.
Take a read of their story below.

I’ve been messaged a lot over the last few days about ‘why GP’s are so reluctant to treat peri/postmenopause’ as soon as women come through the door. The simple answer is that we don’t NOT want to treat you, but we want to make sure we are treating the right problem because we want the best for you.
GP’s are truly trying to do the best job they can and yes, there needs to be more education hence the amazing campaign for the Menopahse Research and Education Fund (which the wonderful Sarah Ball and Alison Macbeth completed epic runs to raise money for).
When we think about the time your GP might have with you, they are trying to really pin down what is going on. They may need to see you a few times to get the correct diagnosis.
This is something I often point out in workshops- you may need several appointments to cover your concerns and for these to be addressed safely AND accurately. This isn’t wrong.
I acknowledge and am mindful of those out there who haven’t had a smooth journey. Symptoms of different conditions can overlap, and individual responses to treatments can vary widely. If you feel uncertain about a diagnosis or treatment plan, seeking a second opinion can provide additional perspectives and reassurance.
Be an active participant in your healthcare. Educate yourself about your condition and treatment options. This collaboration can lead to better outcomes and a more satisfying healthcare experience.
Healthcare is a partnership.
Let’s aim for a healthcare environment that values transparency, continuous learning, and mutual respect.
