It's that time of year again. 🎃The time of year where we watch scary movies, eat candy until our stomachs hurt, and break out our favorite Halloween decorations. While we all love a good jump scare, it's time to start thinking about something a little scarier - our mortality. Boo! I know, I know, it's not the most thrilling topic, but hear me out. Halloween is the perfect reminder that, as fun as it is to dress up as a skeleton or a mummy, one day we'll all be six feet under. So, it's time to put down the pumpkin carving tools and pick up a pen to start planning for the future. Let's make sure our legacy isn't just a cheap plastic skeleton from the dollar store. Chinese New Year, Pancake Day, and Valentine's Day – what are your favourite ways to celebrate? There is something about celebrations around this time of the year that I love... And it mostly because of the foods that are part of the festivities. With Chinese New Year on February 10th, I'm thinking of dumplings and steamed fish ... or maybe beef and broccoli noodles. ...maybe! For Valentine's Day on the 14th, there's a choice to made between chocolate cake or chocolate mousse... oh... decisions, decisions! But Pancake Day is easy. Through my childhood, we had thin – almost crepe-like – pancakes with a squeeze of lemon juice and dusting of sugar. And then I moved to Canada and the preferred repast changed to fluffy pancakes. Sometimes I'd enjoy them simply with syrup. Sometimes I'd include fresh blueberries, sometimes banana, sometimes with a side of crispy bacon. Oh, the choices. What hasn't changed is the choice of syrup – it was and still is lashings of real Canadian maple syrup. Storytelling doesn't always have to be a detailed adventure for you or your readers, telling all the twists and turns. Sometimes all we need is a few words to set the scene, include a personal note, and let a beautiful image help paint that picture. Are you a food entrepreneur in Perthshire or beyond who’d like support to sort out your branding and marketing? I can help. Whether it’s your strategies or implementation plans, writing posts or photographing your amazing products, services, or venue, I’d love to speak with you. #perthshire #food #brandmarketing #foodphotography #brandstorytelling

Valentine's Day is a special time to celebrate. It's also a time that increases the risk of fires due to the use of candles, cooking, and other potential fire hazards. Here are some important points to keep in mind to prevent fires on Valentine's Day: 1. Candles: Many people use candles to create a romantic atmosphere but they can easily start a fire if not used safely. Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything that can burn, and never leave them unattended. An important risk to keep in mind is the risk of candles being knocked over. To ensure safety, be mindful and careful around open-lit candles. 2. Cooking: A special meal is a common way to celebrate Valentine's Day. However, it's important to stay in the kitchen while cooking and keep flammable items away from the stovetop. 3. Fireplaces: If you have a fireplace, make sure to use a protective screen to prevent embers from escaping. Also, never leave a fire unattended, and ensure that the fire is completely extinguished before going to bed. Have a great Valentine's Day and stay safe. #ValentinesDay #FirePrevention #Cooking

So, Valentine's Day confession time: I attempted to bake a cake for my boyfriend. Now, let's just say I'm not exactly the next Great British Bake Off contestant. Picture more like a Pinterest fail meets culinary catastrophe. But you know what? Despite my cake having a soggier bottom than you’d get white water rafting, he loved it. And that got me thinking... How often do we beat ourselves up over not meeting some imaginary standard? How many times have I let fear of not being perfect hold me back from trying something new? Probably more times than I'd care to admit! But hey, here's the kicker: Stepping out of our comfort zones is where the real magic happens! It’s when we realize what we are truly capable of. So, let's not get too caught up in appearances, because at the end of the day, it's the effort and the love we put into things that truly matter. So here's to embracing the messy, imperfect, beautifully human journey of growth and self-discovery! Oh, and here is my soggy bottomed beauty in all its glory. I’d love to say it tasted better than it looked, but I don’t think I’ll be winning any baking contests any time soon 🤦♀️ #CakeFail #ValentinesDayConfessions #EmbraceTheMessy #GrowthMindset

5mo* * 12 days ago So my wife and I have enjoyed P F CHANGS for many years now. With that said, we went there recently for dinner, and it was a bit of wreck. We ordered drinks to start which took some going because options for said drink had been changed for the worse. Once that was straightened out... we ordered dinner. It got worse. First they list sushi on the menu of which they have none. They do have rolls, which are actually called MAKI, not sushi. We ordered a dragon roll and what came out of the kitchen looked more like a pencil than a roll. It was about o e third the size that it should be and had so little fish on it that it did not even make a mouthful all combined. Tissue paper thin little scraps of what I would normally call refuse. Pathetic! We also ordered what was touted as some sort of Asian style braised short ribs. Oh brother!!! I stacked the meat that was on the plate and it stood about 2 inches high, not even enough to make a single rib. The rest of the plate was filled, and I mean FILLED, with pineapple rice. Tasted good, but I paid nearly $40 for less than a single rib and enough rice to feed a family of 6! Between the rib, roll, order of edamame and drink, we got out of there paying a bit over $100 dollars
