Last week in Cagayan De Oro, I participated in a collaborative discussion with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines. The meeting revolved around opportunities to support STI-driven industrialization and commercialization. Key discussion points included startup incubation to facilitate the commercialization of research and development (R&D), providing prototyping services, and conducting proof-of-concept applied research in companies. This ecosystem aims to translate R&D outputs into viable commercial products and support industry transformation through digital innovation. As part of an ongoing nationwide innovation project development, the Department of Trade and Industry is committed to fostering public-private partnerships, enhancing local industry capabilities, and ensuring sustainable economic growth. We emphasize capacity-building and upskilling the workforce to meet the demands of evolving technologies, creating a more competitive and resilient economy.
