I help people understand, train and modify behaviour in their dogs using effective reward based techniques
We're all guilty of this with our dogs. Just because we love them and they're cute doesn't mean they know things before they've been taught. Are you expecting too much from your dog? Put yourself in their shoes and think how you'd react. And you're the one with the bigger brain! Set your dog up for success by starting easy and gradually building up to more difficult things. #dogs #expectations #dogtraining #lifewithdogs

3 Lessons I’ve Learned from My Dog Alice 🐶 Spending every day with a dog has changed how I think about life… Dogs can teach us a lot about how to live. Here are some lessons we can all apply that dogs inherently know: 1️⃣ Life is too precious to not live every day in a state of appreciation and bliss. Alice is always present to the moment. She does not worry about tomorrow, and she is not carrying resentment about the past, whether it was another dog that tried to bite her, or any time that I’ve accidentally bumped a door or chair at her. She does not doubt herself or have low self-esteem… She is in the moment now, wagging her tail every morning to just go outdoors for the same walk we do everyday, and then to have the same meal as yeasterday. 2️⃣ Be interested and care for others. Whether I go to the gym, or I lierally just go out for five minutes to the next door coffee shop, I come back to a warm welcome. Alice is full of excitement to see me, wags her tail and walks around me for minutes… and for what? I just was away for 5 minutes. We could all do better with this. Smile at people, say hi, be kind. Of course you wont be like a dog around people, but at the very least greet them with a smile. Most will return it back, but you don’t do it because you expect that. A dog will greet everyone nice, not expecting that they even like them, which is hard to believe there are people who don’t like dogs. 3️⃣ When you want something, go get it. A dog does not ask around for the opinions of others, it does not wait, calculate the odds… it goes right at it. This type of decisiveness and commitment to action is missing in many humans. Instead of going ”fire, then aim” we go ”aim, then fire”. Which I know sounds all backwards, but most things in life pass us by if we spend too much time aiming. You take the first step immediately, commit all the way, and then correct course as necessary. Which one of the above resonated with you the most? Write it in the comments. #dog #doglover #doglovers #dogs #doglove

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐱𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 Fact 1: We humans created domestic dogs (over hundreds of generations) to be our friends and companions. We literally made them to need and want to please us. Fact 2: Despite this, some dog trainers still believe dogs act like wolves in wolf packs. These trainers think dogs need to be told or shocked to avoid being dangerous or difficult. This is based on a theory that was debunked many decades ago. Fact 3: Wolves in wolf packs are family groups who use subtle and highly intelligent communication to maintain peace within the family. So, according to this idea, dogs are strutting around thinking they are wolves and that we too are wolves,. Dogs trying to take advantage of us by leading our "pack"—even though wolves themselves don't lead packs in this way. Despite the fact that dogs have been bred for hundreds of years to want to be with us and to please us. Let's be a bit more aware than that shall we?

Having the human and then the oldest dog go first ‘rule’ keeps order. Everyone knows what to expect. This order is kept right on down to the youngest dog in the house. This keeps the oldest dog feeling safe and free from competition. It’s a pattern that everyone can count on happening every time. The others know when they will have their turn and that lowers their stress level. It's important to train in those boundaries so that everyone is calm and you can enjoy having dogs without having to scream at them and be upset because they aren't listening to you. You show them by action. You show them by being the leader and the boss. I even pull on the oldest dog's lead first when we are leaving the house. Once that dog is out the door, I pull on the second to eldest dog's lead, and so on. So many people have asked me questions about their dogs, especially puppies, so I created an online course after I wrote my two books.
