Forecasting tech’s future? It’s a bold gambit—often a hit or miss. Decades ago, I was the seer for tech juggernauts, decoding the next big thing. My role? The provocateur—saying what needed to be said, corporate politics be damned. Back then, the tech world was a whirlwind of change, with upstarts wielding new tech to shake up the old guard. Fast forward to today, and I’m throwing down the gauntlet: Calendars are obsolete. AI will dictate your schedule; no human is needed. And apps? They’re on borrowed time. AI will cherry-pick functionalities, crafting a bespoke user experience. I’m Andy, your fractional Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. Let’s not just meet the future; let’s shape it. I’m your ally, your strategist, your truth-teller. Ready to step up your game? Book a session with me. Book here https://lnkd.in/emMjKSt5

After a mammoth year of media moments for MYOB and the customers we serve, we're winding up 2023 with one more for the reading list - this time looking at NZ's mid-sized businesses and how their adoption of AI is fuelling business growth. 🚀 Two-thirds of local mid-market business leaders we polled say they're already using AI in their organisations, and with the majority expecting AI to have a substantial impact on their industry in the next five years ⏳, we can only expect the volume of enterprises leveraging it to increase.

In their session on their ongoing work to change internal modes of thinking from a focus on product and product category to a more holistic view of consumers and their demand spaces, Haleon’s Tina Tonielli and Sandra Guerra stressed the need to avoid a one-and-done approach to insights socialization and instead commit to a long-haul effort. In their case that meant conducting 100 workshops and trainings to get internal stakeholders within the maker of everything from Sensodyne to Advil on board. #QuirksEvent #QuirksNewYork #MRX #insights

Some really interesting thoughts from the ever insightful Doug Shapiro at the recent Moffett Nathanson conference. One that resonated in particular is the impact of AI on content creation, an area I’ve been spending a lot of time on recently Doug suggests that as AI continues to drive down the barriers to entry for content creation, the implications for studios, the traditional gatekeepers of scripted TV and Film content, is likely to be profound. It then stands to reason that in a world where content choices continue to expand exponentially and consumers are faced with infinite choices, the value of what is known and familiar will only increase. Known brands and libraries will have value and there will be buyers for this content. Sounds familiar? We don’t have to look that far back. Remember when cable was the rerun wasteland? Or how Netflix got started? New businesses are built on the back of libraries. As traditional media companies and IP owners (driven by next quarters earnings imperative) race to license their content to Google/Open AI etc. it’s going to be critical to think beyond the immediate cash flow. While the scales in media shift between whether content or distribution takes the higher throne as king or queen, if the last decade has taught us anything it's that DATA is the ALMIGHTY. And the KEY to unlocking any hope of a HAPPY EVER AFTER is to ensure knowing/understanding/owning how your content is being used, distributed, consumed etc. For studios/traditional IP owners to once again fall into the trap of the lucrative but opaque deals of the not so distant past, with no insight into how their content is being used or performing, would be the equivalent of resigning themselves to the ever fading galaxy of has-beens in Evan Shapīro's brilliant media maps. In this new world, data is power

Last week, I had the honor of speaking about the implications of GenAI in Hollywood at the MoffettNathanson LLC Media, Internet and Communications Conference, hosted by Michael Nathanson, Craig Moffett and Robert Fishman. I'm a huge fan of MoffettNathanson's work (and cite it all the time). I spent the first 10 minutes laying out my thesis for why GenAI may herald a second wave of disruption and then we had a wide ranging discussion, including: * Why GenAI applications in video are advancing so quickly * The tension between GenAI being an opportunity and a threat to the studios (and the difference between sustaining and disruptive innovations) * The structural challenges for the studios to adopt GenAI tools * Why Jeffrey Katzenberg's warning that AI will reduce the costs of making an animated film by 90% might not be too far off * The increasingly-extreme power law distributions of popularity and what it means for established and emerging talent * Why the music labels have been able to maintain primacy in the value chain even as the barriers to creating music have fallen, and whether it's a hopeful comparison for Hollywood * How Netflix could go from disruptor to disruptee Here's the video: https://lnkd.in/e9U7Rtd9

When I started Propel Innovations, I had no idea there was a world of 😇 angels investing in ambitious founders. My curious self dug deep into that world. I began connecting with people who are angel investors or in VC. I became “Inspector Gadget”.🕵🏽♀️ I discovered: I wouldn’t qualify as a business providing a service. ❌ The BTS (behind-the-scenes) hustle of founders seeking funding 💰. The funding gap/access (0.03%) for ambitious founders who look like 💁🏽♀️. And, Canada’s 🇨🇦 growing Black-owned VCs. But, Australia 🇦🇺 never ceases to surprise me. As someone (even as a Canadian) who has (and still) struggled to achieve my ambitious dreams in Australia: ❓How does Australia expect to bring more skilled migrants in tech and grow a tech ecosystem when the current ones struggle for employment with their visa status? ❓How well equipped does the startup ecosystem (comprising of angels and VCs) understand the barriers of migration? ❓How many founders have left Australia to grow their businesses elsewhere (I’ve met these founders) where migration policies and government subsidies are making it way more attractive to build at an early stage than in Australia? Earlier this year, I decided I’d become part of the change and joined Startmate’s First Believers program to continue educating myself in angel investing. That’s how I met Sean Hua. A champion, a sponsor and a budding angel investor! In his podcast, I speak openly and truthfully about the correlation between migration and business in Australia 🇦🇺. You’ll hear my frustrations as much as my unwavering optimism. Happy listen! Thanks to every angel and VC who have shared their insights and guided me in my education about angel investing! #entrepreneurship #angelinvesting #migrationisabitch #UncoverUntappedMarkets
