🙏 Thankful Thursday 🙏 Learn more about our clinician, Alex Pelletier LCSW! Personality type: Can have fun doing anything but also laidback. Favorite book/show/movie: Favorite singular book is hard. I like a lot of different books because I like to learn about different things. I like books about nutrition, attachment, mental health, trauma, neuroscience and other nerd stuff. For shows I like the office, avatar the last airbender, naruto, parks and rec, diners, drive-ins and dives. For movies I like Planet Earth and Blue Planet if that counts? I like Disney movies too, partly because I act like I absolutely nail all those big songs (think Frozen). Favorite food: burgers, dumplings, tacos, burritos, soft pretzels, cheese Favorite place: For places I usually go to, I like my house and my parent’s house. For places I’ve traveled to, I really like Colorado and New Hampshire Hobbies: video games, reading, singing in the car/karaoke, dancing Something interesting: I’ve been skydiving before. I like ice skating and playing hockey though I’m definitely not a professional by any means. I like Zelda and have beaten many of the games. My ultimate goal is to play all of the Zelda games. What led me to Compassionate Counseling: I was interning at a crisis center and the family partner there knew I wanted to work in a private practice. She gave me Julia’s information and I just called and let her know I was interested. Now I’m here! Best thing about Compassionate Counseling: The people here are so knowledgeable and supportive.

As both an associate for the specialty toy shop Snickelfritz Toys as well as a mental health advocate — this is too cool. “How can we strengthen the skills kids need for their mental, emotional, and social health and build resilience through play? It allows us to see toys and games through a new lens that shows us in greater detail the impact they can have on children as they play.” #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalhealthawarenessmonth

This week, we had a chat with Alla Chernyatinskaya, a child psychologist. We talked about simple but very important things in interacting with children, like: ✅ Adults being engaged when talking to a child. ✅ Genuine interest from adults in what they do and are interested in. ✅ Spending time outdoors. At first glance, it all seems simple, but just think about how often we can talk or answer a child's questions while also thinking about our own things and continuing to solve work tasks. Or we realize something needs to be done, but we don't find anything interesting in it ourselves. As a result, we do things automatically, can get irritated, and give reactions that the child doesn't expect. And of course, fresh air. How often, with our busy lives, can we just take a walk and observe what's happening around us? A child's development and beneficial habits depend entirely on us, adults, and primarily on how we feel, what interests us, and what we do. All of this influences a child's confidence, the formation of interests and useful habits, the ability to say "no," which is especially important in adolescence, and, of course, it builds trust and a strong connection with the child. It's like in an airplane emergency - we put the mask on ourselves first. 🤔 Just think, they are us. If you grow up that way, what kind of person would you be? ❗ ❤️ And one more thing, as adults, we can realize it, and no matter what was, we can make a change. Kids cannot and depend on you. 🌟 Let's be a good example that leads. Happy Friday and Have a Wonderful Weekend 🙌

🥪 July is Sandwich Generation Month, recognizing those caring for both their children and aging parents. If you find yourself in this challenging position, here are 3 tips to help you navigate this journey: 1. 📅 Prioritize self-care. Caring for others can be emotionally and physically draining. Make time for activities that help you recharge and reduce stress. 2. 💡 Communicate openly with your family. Discuss your responsibilities, expectations, and limitations honestly to ensure everyone is on the same page. 3. 💼 Seek professional help when needed. Don't hesitate to consult with financial advisors, eldercare specialists, or therapists to help you manage your unique challenges.

I can definitely understand the joy in creating awareness. Raising awareness about important issues can have a significant impact on individuals, communities, and even the world. It allows people to become more informed, engaged, and proactive, ultimately leading to positive changes. Creating awareness can involve sharing knowledge, promoting causes, or spreading information about specific topics. Whether it's advocating for the victims of human Trafficking, environmental conservation, promoting mental health awareness, or fighting social injustices, raising awareness helps to educate and involve others in these key issues. The joy in creating awareness comes from knowing that you are making a difference and empowering others to take action. It can be fulfilling to see the impact of your efforts as more people become educated, involved, and passionate about a particular issue. Additionally, creating awareness often involves connecting with like-minded individuals, building a sense of community, and collaborating with others who share similar goals. This shared purpose can provide a sense of fulfillment, happiness, and unity. Ultimately, the joy in creating awareness lies in the satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing to positive change and making a difference in the lives of others. It's a powerful way to spread knowledge and inspire action.

Start with grace. It’s the start of summer in Arizona, and for all the managers out there, let’s talk about giving some grace. Your parent employees are juggling teacher appreciation week, spirit days, end-of-year parties, concerts, field days, and simply getting their kids to the last day of school healthy. The end of the school year brings joy for kids, exhaustion for teachers, and a mountain of tasks for parents. So, if you notice your team is a bit distracted, understand that their mental load is heavy with the 5 million (and 1) things they need to handle. It’s exhausting! Employers, let’s be mindful. Recognize the ebbs and flows of your employees’ lives. The work will still be there next week, and we aren’t emergency services. (Unless you are, then sending you tons of love!❤️ ) Let’s support our teams through these busy times. A little understanding goes a long way. PS- What was your favorite end of the school year tradition as a kid?
