It's rare for my personal activities to spill over into LinkedIn, but I'm particularly proud of this one and when one takes on a daunting challenge like this there are many learnings which transfer into the business world.
Having a #motivating and ambitious target got me out of bed every day to put the hard work & training in, even when the weather was bleak and the nights were dark. 🚀
#Practice runs on the course helped familiarize me with what was to come. Meaning that on the start line I was more relaxed & prepared for the challenge ahead. 😀
#Adaptingtochange & reassessing the target. The race did not go to plan. A record heat wave for the event struck and wiped out half the field on Day 1. I missed a time cut-off on day 2 due to the heat & fatigue and had to move to the slightly shorter 200km course, but kept my objective of making it Castle to Castle from the North to the South of Wales. 📈
Through #adversity comes the greatest growth. Putting myself in uncomfortable situations like this has required me to do a crazy amount of planning & learning about mountaineering & ultra running. Then putting it into practice is where the learning is cemented. 😅
#Teamwork got me to Cardiff Castle. When a group of people come together with a common goal, life long friendships and camaraderie is formed. I was fortunate to train and race with some brilliant people that constantly looked out for each other, made the process #fun and supported each other when the going got tough. 🤝
Finally it almost goes without saying that the physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise are incredible. Getting out for a jog helps bring clarity & seems to make the stresses or strains in home or work life so much more manageable. I'm not suggesting you need to do 200km, even a brisk walk round your local park will help clear the mind. 👟 🙌

Traversing 17,400 meters of ascent, across some of the most challenging terrain, Barry personified the Veracity spirit with remarkable resilience and determination.
