Are you planning a well-being holiday or retreat this year? Many of us, myself included, are dabbling with the idea. But what is a well-being holiday? It varies widely, from staying at home and consciously deciding not to do all the home-type things for a period of time, to a self-directed solo trip in a rented property, to a highly curated, luxurious experience, in a glorious resort - of which there are many. And, of course, there’s everything in between. Forbes suggests exploring options like Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas in Ibiza, where Mark Hyman, MD serves as the chief medical officer of the RoseBar Longevity Clinic. I would not be opposed to this, this place is on my list. Then, there is the London 'The Surrenne' well-being and longevity members' club at The Emory, or the spa experiences that focus on aesthetics like at Dr Preema in London. Meanwhile, across the pond in NYC, Connecticut, Miami, Costa Rica, and Mexico is THE WELL, one of my favorite spots to immerse into for its calm and serene environment, collection of products, services, and nutrient rich foods. Yet, a well-being holiday or retreat doesn't have to be expensive, highly curated, or involve treatments. It’s about aligning with your needs at the time. Recognizing you are an evolving, shape-shifting human-being, your needs will change as you do. Learning how to identify your needs is an important part of the equation in designing a well-being holiday or retreat. I often design solo retreats in a location that captures my imagination and inspiration, spending time in nature, reading, journaling, and eating nourishing foods. Many struggle to be alone, and it can bring up a lot. However, there are ways to cope with it, and it can deliver profound healing and ah-ha moments. When traveling further afield or choosing a destination it's possible to accidentally fall into applying pressure on yourself to create something 'perfect'. Instead, let that go, and allow an unfolding to occur. For example, in preparing for a trip to Italy, I asked a friend about well-being resorts there, and while there are many, she wisely said; "Just being in Italy is well-being." For me, that’s true. For others, it might not be. The key is recognizing what is true for you, choosing what feels expansive and supportive for you, based on your own body wisdom and needs. With so many well-being and wellness options available, the ability to discern what works best for you is essential to enhancing your own well-being. Often, being given ideas can generate inspiration, and that helps to discern what works for you. WELLNESS RETREATS by PARADISE RESORTS The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health. · Physical: Nourishing a healthy body through exercise, nutrition, sleep, etc. · Mental: Engaging the world through learning, problem-solving, creativity, etc. · Emotional: Being aware of, accepting and expressing our feelings, and understanding the feelings of others. · Spiritual: Searching for meaning and higher purpose in human existence. · Social: Connecting and engaging with others and our communities in meaningful ways. · Environmental: Fostering positive interrelationships between planetary health and human actions, choices and wellbeing. GWI projects that wellness tourism will grow rapidly in the coming years, as the overall tourism sector continues to recover from the pandemic. Wellness tourism is projected to grow by 16.6% annually, reaching $1.4 trillion in 2027. World travelers made over 819 million international and domestic wellness trips in 2019, below the pre-pandemic level of 936 billion trips in 2019. International wellness tourists on average spent $1,764 per trip in 2022, 41% more than the typical international tourist. Domestic wellness tourists spent $668 per trip, 175% more than the average domestic tourist. Secondary wellness travelers accounted for 88% of wellness trips and 85% of wellness tourism expenditures in 2022. Secondary wellness tourism involves trips where wellness is not the primary motivation for the trip, but where wellness affects some choices and activities because the traveler would like to maintain good health and/or their wellness lifestyle during the trip. It is time to treat our homes as an investment in our wellness. The Global Wellness Institute believes that residential real estate is the next frontier that will be radically transformed by the wellness movement. Our homes, communities and surrounding environment directly affect our daily behaviors and lifestyles, and together these determine up to 80–90 percent of our health outcomes. Since our homes are typically our most important personal investment and expenditure, it is only logical that they should also be an investment in our health and wellbeing. PARADISE RESORTS has a portfolio of unique boutique hotels to be acquired and branded with the Wellness Retreat brand. Our all-inclusive program includes basic wellness services. Our designated-use, profit sharing program recovers the initial investment within 24 months and just making money from that point on. The initial investment to initiate the program is $3,000,000 USD to define and own the hospitality wellness tourism market estimated to be $1.4 trillion in 2027. www.paradiseresorts.mx
