Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum’s Post

We are thrilled to unveil a new chapter in our 167-year history. As one of Chicago’s oldest cultural institutions—and one of the oldest scientific institutions in the United States—we stand as a beacon of wonder, nature, connection, and inspiration. While our brand identity has largely remained the same for the past 20 years, our institution has continued to evolve and grow. We’re more than a museum. Our mission resonates across all generations and this refreshed identity reflects that growth. Our revitalized brand look and feel reflects not only our dedication to preserving the past, but also our commitment to the future. From our refreshed name to our palette pulled from the colors of an Illinois prairie, we are boldly championing nature. Our city is full of dedicated advocates who have a deep passion for nature and science. From educators finding new ways to connect their students with the natural world in their schoolyards, to community leaders igniting sustainable changes in their communities. From individuals cultivating pollinator havens in their own backyards, to volunteers tracking local dragonfly species. As evidenced by our refreshed tagline—Inspiring Nature Champions— we’re creating a platform to encourage and amplify nature champions throughout our city. It all begins with the Flight of Butterflies. We are profoundly grateful to our dedicated partners at Span whose invaluable contribution brought our refreshed brand vision to fruition across our digital and physical spaces. As we embark on this exciting new chapter in our institution’s history, we invite you to join us as we inspire generations of nature champions through inspiration, action, and curiosity. It was truly a privilege to collaborate with the esteemed Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum of the Chicago Academy of Sciences. Our partnership with your esteemed historians, scientists, specialists, storytellers, CEO, Leadership Team, Board of Trustees, and communications team felt akin to traversing a vibrant prairie landscape. Your collective expertise and passion kept us perennially immersed in a state of wonder and inspiration, fostering a profound connection to the natural world. With your invaluable support, we redefined the public perception of Chicago’s oldest institution, positioning it truthfully, as a trailblazer in conservation research and a steadfast protector of our local wildlife.
