It is an understandable question when you look at how we don’t always differentiate gender identity and gender expression. When we realize they are two separate things, we can understand that people are going to dress in a way that feels right to them. The influence of dressing children in gender-stereotypical clothing has been well-researched. However, there is not much discussion on how avoiding the stereotypes in favor of gender neutrality is taking away children's choice of gender expression. This article observes how adults who restrict their children's clothing choices to avoid or adhere with gender stereotypes create limitations to a child's true gender identity.

Pansexuality involves gender-blind attraction, emphasizing connections based on the essence of a person rather than their gender identity. In contrast, bisexuality involves gender-focused attraction, acknowledging and embracing both binary and non-binary genders. Both orientations celebrate diverse identities and promote inclusivity, but they differ in the scope of their attraction. Understanding these differences fosters empathy and acceptance, allowing individuals to embrace their authentic selves with pride. What do you do when you meet someone new? Here are some strategies from today's webinar "Understanding & Supporting Gender Sexual Diversity during Pride and Year Round" presented by @TransfocusConsulting and Inclusivity. 1. Don't assume you know someone's pronouns, gender, or sexuality by their appearance. Use gender-neutral pronouns such as "they/them/theirs" as a placeholder until you find out. 2. Include your pronouns when you introduce yourself. Ask theirs, but don't press if they are hesitant. Not everyone feels they fit into defined gender categories! Much gratitude to EGBC for hosting this webinar which dug into the acronym 2SLGBTQIA , provided some key historical and present-day context, illuminated structural and cultural challenges faced by the 2SLGBTQIA community, and gave some concrete strategies for approaching conversations about gender. Our team is wiser for it!

Reflection 2:Gender pronouns! Language is constantly changing - new words and phrases evolve to reflect the world around us. When it comes to pronouns some cultures are open to the concept and others less so. It’s important to know when pronouns are culturally appropriate. Some people are open minded to the concept and others less so. To broaden your personal view and understand the importance of this inclusive action, engage with those whose gender identification has been a challenge. Seek to understand different views. We use pronouns every day when referring to someone without using their name. Our most commonly used pronouns (he/she) specifically refer to a person’s gender. For gender diverse, gender queer, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and trans people they may prefer, the pronoun of them/they, as a gendered pronoun can create discomfort. Sharing your pronouns when introducing yourself and encouraging others to do, encourages a culture of inclusivity.
