Design happens when you/ the designer changes an existing situation into a preferred one! Recently travelled to #seoul, and it was interesting to see many tiny design hacks (which in the long run make for the backbone of an excellent service design economy) because where real estate is at a premium, designers have little choice but to leverage vertical innovation, with little luxury for things to be horizontally designed. One of my favorites, which might sound trivial but landed up being very critical - was the power point outlet design, which was typically set up as two vertical power plugs points, one on top of the other (vertical design), and the design hack? Pins placed at a 60° angle, ensuring two plugs can be inserted simultaneously, without their cords piling on top of each other (there by applying bad design and inventing new problems), and with grace. I've been working on a cool project! I've been asked to design a hoody that celebrates connectivity, communication, and technology. The brief was all about embracing that classic Bauhaus vibe, I’m not a graphic or fashion designer, but the opportunity to try something new was too good to say no to and I'm having so much fun with it. Here’s the concept of what I came up with: 🔵 Abstract Geometric Shapes: Circles, triangles, squares, and lines all overlapping and intersecting to create some awesome depth and movement. 🎨 🔵 Clean Lines and Symmetry: Keeping things balanced and neat with straight lines and symmetry for that crisp, professional touch. 📐 🔵 Visual Motifs: Signal Waves: Representing wireless communication. Interconnected Nodes: Showing the network and connectivity. Abstract Data Transfer: Lines and dots to symbolize data zooming through the network. 📡🔗 🔵 Depth and Shading: Playing with different shades of gray to create a cool 3D effect and add some layers and depth. 🖤 🔵 Dynamic Elements: Using diagonal lines and curves to guide the eye and inject some energy into the design. 💫 The concept might not just be for hoodies. We can take these design elements and tie them into smaller items, like a water bottle: 🥤Geometric Shapes: Wrapping around the bottle for a continuous flow. 🥤 Signal Waves and Nodes: Intertwining around the bottle, emphasising connectivity. 🥤 Depth and Shading: Using the bottle’s shape to enhance the 3D effect. Dynamic Elements: Creating a sense of movement around the bottle’s surface. Even though this isn’t my usual niche, I’m happy about how versatile this concept is. I can’t share the actual final designs just yet since it’s still a work in progress and waiting for sign-off, but I will as soon as I can. Let's talk about the basics Hierarchy: Make your design easy to follow by putting important stuff first, guiding people through the design, and making sure key things stand out. Alignment: Give your design a neat and professional look by keeping everything in line, making it easy to understand, and making it all look good together. Contrast: Make your design interesting by making some things really stand out, using differences like color or size to catch people's attention and make your design more engaging. White Space: Give your design some breathing room by using white space wisely; it helps avoid clutter, makes things easier to read, and creates a clean, inviting look. Proximity: Bring related elements closer together in your design to show they belong together; this makes it clear, organized, and helps people understand the relationships between different pieces of information.
