George Harrison (1/5) And now for something completely different: the Beatles. If I could chose any two people I'd like to have dinner with, then I would take George Harrison as my number one. When I was in my early teens, back in the mid-80s, I discovered the Beatles for me. At that time the rebellious John Lennon was my favourite Beatle. In later years, it was George whom I liked best and it has stayed that way ever since. George, who is normally referred to as the quite one, was anything but quite. He may not have been speaker #1 of the group sincere, he was not only sincere but also a very funny person. I like his sense of humour very much. When the Beatles auditioned for George Martin, back in 1962, in order to get a record deal, George Martin was not convinced at all that this group could possibly be successful. He gave the group an hones on their playing. He then gave the Beatles the chance to respond to his dressing down. "I've laid into you for quite a long time," he said. "You haven't responded. Is there anything you don't like?" "Well, for a start," replied George Harrison, "I don't like your tie." That reply, so it is reported, broke the ice. Without George Harrison breaking the ice, there may have been no Beatles. Here is my cartoon to it. Like Blunt, I made my peace with being uncool a long time ago. Self awareness is the great joy of getting older. It’s also a huge energy saver. Being yourself takes a fraction of the effort of trying to be someone else. And that goes for brands as well as people. Authenticity FTW. Like Rothrock, I like my influence to be invisible.
