At #PCMAEC, Mai Xiong , Michigan State Representative 13th House District, shared her incredible story of resilience and reinvention. Born in a Thai refugee camp to Hmong parents who fled Laos, Mai is now making history as the first Hmong American in the Michigan Legislature. Mai's message? Your unique experiences are your superpower. Whether you're planning events or running for office, your personal story is your strength. #PCMAEC #EventProfs 📸 Jacob Slaton

#meaningfulparticipation #refugeeleadership I am very conflicted and struggling to understand the concept of being questioned about my credibility of being someone with lived experiences and moral authority I have to lead for the cause of Rohingya and other refugees simply by being given the Co-Sg position at APRRN. What does meaningful participation mean in this sense? To me this speaks the volumes of the genuine beliefs & faith in the leadership of refugee and other people with lived experiences. To me , this is not even a question to be asked. Being someone with lived experience is enough credibility to be able to represent and lead under My definition of #meaningfulparticipation.

What a wonderful initiative, this is the kind of social value/heritage skills/conservation outcome we are aiming for at St Petrocs, down here in Devon. It is so inspiring to see those further along the process having so much success and to be able to follow in their footsteps. #heritageskills#crafttraining#heritageindustry#construction#buildingsarchaeology
Heritage Crafts bursary recipient Daahir Mohamed is helping restore an historic pub near Bath while teaching refugees an important skill through his Bristol Heritage Skills initiative. Daahir came to the UK from Somalia as a refugee himself and is now a skilled lime plasterer. He’s currently working on the 500-year-old Hop Pole pub in Limpley Stoke, which was saved from development by the community in 2022. https://lnkd.in/dEaBNMpG

The Al-Til Co-educational School in Al-Til village, Solagh, Sinjar, has been rehabilitated by UN-Habitat, providing a welcoming space for students from the zone. UN-Habitat, in partnership with the Directorate of Education, has contributed to creating a quality learning environment and improving access to education for future generations. Through these efforts, the youth from the zone will be better equipped to contribute to the area's recovery and development. This effort is part of the 'Recovery Support to Returnees in Iraq to Strengthen Socio-Economic Stabilization, including Improved Food Security' project, funded by the Government of Japan. #UNHABITATIRAQ #FromThePeopleofJapan #SDG11 #SDG4 Japan - The Government of Japan UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) Rania Hedeya Muslim Qazimi Ryosuke Teraoka

📢𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐧: 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 Today on International Day of Education, we are launching a new midline report and policy brief on adolescents' education and learning in Jordan. The theme of Education Day is “learning for lasting peace.” Conflict can have long lasting implications on young people’s educational learning outcomes – in Jordan only 57% of Syrian refugees and 69% of Palestinians passed their leaving exams, compared to 81% Jordanians. While there has been a large amount of attention from international donors to refugee education in Jordan, this has not been translated into learning outcomes.
