The concepts of passenger-carrying drones and air taxis aim to soar above congested urban areas. 🏙️ Despite early research focusing on vehicle development, urban air traffic management solutions are lagging behind. In this paper, our experts describe a meticulous examination of the seminal urban air mobility research endeavors at DLR spanning from 1995 to 2022. Vigilant Aerospace is enjoying a beautiful testing day at the OSU Unmanned Aircraft Flight Station near Stillwater, Oklahoma. The testing is for our Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST) project with partners at Oklahoma Aerospace Institute for Research and Education and with additional support from the US Economic Development Administration. We're testing FlightHorizon with drones, radar, and high data throughput. #innovation #unmannedsystems #drones

Triple-frequency collection of in-flight drone radar signatures. Another awesome radar data collection trial recently! We collected radar signatures of 6 different sizes & shapes of drone, flown by Skykam Ltd _ Inspections & Mapping at ranges up to ~100 m, using three of our radars at 24, 94 and 207 GHz. The work is supported by MathWorks with the aim of developing an open-source dataset of bird and drone signatures for training classification algorithms. The images show the trials team with the smallest and largest drones flown (left), a 24 GHz long-duration spectrogram of maneuvering drones showing characteristic micro-Doppler banding (top right) and a 94 GHz short-duration spectrogram showing propeller blade flashes (bottom right). #Press 🚀🛫 Low-resolution gyroscopes can be found in almost every smartphone today. Without them, our devices would not know where up, down, left and right are. In unmanned drones or UAVs however, systems with very high precision are required, which means larger and heavier components. As part of the #IMUCompact research project, Fraunhofer IZM has developed a compact and lightweight navigation unit (IMU) for drones that enables an accuracy in the centimeter range. Such precision was previously unattainable for civilian applications. With lighter components, higher payloads can be achieved thanks to a lower dead weight, which is particularly important for use in the logistics sector. 👀Would you like to find out more?
