What is the Paytm controversy and what does it mean for you? As a user- -No, Paytm is not shutting down. Only its payment bank and wallet are. So if you have money in the wallet, or any autopay payments from it, please change it before Feb 29th. Why? Simply because they could not comply with the banking regulations of the RBI. -Yes, you can still use Paytm to make UPI payments and, -No, it’s not a sign on the company’s financials like the YesBank case. However, As a trader- Upon analysis of the stock, I did spot some red flags: 🚩0% promotor holding 🚩poor ROE of -20.53% over the past 3 years 🚩 low EBITDA margin of -72.78% over the past 5 years Now, buying the dip is great and all, but betting on a losing horse isn’t wise either. It’s termed as ‘Loss aversion’ or ‘The disposition effect’ in behavioral finance where people sell the winners to capitalize on the profits but hold on the losers to get even. #paytm

Man... as a PayTm user, I am scre*ed for using their FASTag? Millions of users are penalised for trusting PayTM as we bought FASTag through them. I am told we have to BUY another FASTag now. Who will pay ? Why not keep the tag active and let Paytm sell that to another Bank/provider or let NHAI collect new payments directly? Why should I buy from a Bank? Paytm's parent company, One 97 Communications, has several companies under its empire that start with the word "Paytm", eg - Paytm, Paytm Payment Banks, Paytm Money, etc. Now, RBI's restrictions are only on Paytm Payment Banks, but some of Paytm's features, such as wallet, fastag, and soundbox, used Paytm Payment Banks for their services. Paytm Payment Banks' services will be shut down from February 29th, so Paytm will have to tie up with another bank before February 29th to run these services. After that, Paytm wallet, fastag, soundbox, will continue to run even after February 29th. But now, due to taking external banks' services, Paytm will suffer a loss of 300-500 crores every year, due to which Paytm's stock is down 35% in 2 days. Good news for Paytm users! You can continue using the platform for UPI services even as most of Paytm payments bank services cease to exist from today. Paytm received a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP) license just in time to continue UPI service operations. It has tied up with four banks to handle payment services for Paytm users. Here is what changes if you use #paytmpaymentsbank services, - You can no longer top-up the Paytm wallet, but can use money in wallets till the balance is exhausted. - Can no longer recharge #Paytm FASTag, Mobility cards, but continue using them till the balance is exhausted. - No longer get salary credit, direct benefit transfer or subsidies in payments bank. You can however keep using Paytm for all bill payments and the QR code or sound box will also continue working.
