It’s so important for us to have a section in #aphrochicmag that’s completely focused on #blackart. Too often, publications that are supposed to be dedicated to the arts exclude the work of Black artists or only focus on a select few. We want to show you the vastness of Black art throughout the #AfricanDiaspora and we’re proud to do so with features like this. As Bryan Mason and I like to say, Blackness is everywhere, but we only see just a sliver who we truly are represented in the current media landscape. https://lnkd.in/ecpdHmRJ
“It’s the eyes that tell the story. The bright colors, the intricate patterns, the heavy expressions, the meaningful gestures, they all play a part. But when seeing the work of South African artist Bambo Sibiya, especially for the first time, it’s the eyes that you can’t look away from; that stop you in your tracks; that make you listen to hear what the artist is trying to say.” We absolutely love the work of #SouthAfrican #artist #BamboSibiya. And we are thrilled to feature him in Issue No. 13 of #AphroChic magazine. Read the full article in our digital issue. Very interesting... in terms on the show, the performance and the trick presented by the illusionary artist. But, the most important aspect is the very postive message which has been conveyed thru this performance.

I recommend checking out Icelandic artist/musician, Jónsi's show at the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in Hollywood. The highlight is the hauntingly powerful "Vox" (video below), which mixes the artist's voice with computerized and AI-generated voices asking us to "ponder the idea of voice, a beautiful and ancient unifier, and its unlimited and unknowing potential to evolve." https://lnkd.in/gRYdugv5

Artists often create an alternative reality. Their ideal world. In the world of the Ukrainian 🇺🇦 artist Alyona Krutogolova, we'd be living in a bright orange fog, lining up for old family photos like in the pre-selfie days, and dressing up and looking regal like King Henry VIII. In my latest article, I try to highlight certain features of her artwork. Her bright orange world. (link in the first comment)

Love the freedom of color and patterns in these designs! More about the artist, Pacita Abad, in the post.
Quilted, beaded, mirrored, painted. Wherever she traveled, Philippine-American artist, PACITA ABAD, created colors and shapes that were materially different. “I have always believed that an artist has a special obligation to remind society of its social responsibility,” she said. I think one responsibility is to spread a little joy. She succeeded. © Pacita Abad Art Estate (1946–2004) More about her: https://www. https://www.instagram.com/ /?hl=https://lnkd.in/e5Q7yTRQ Her instagram: https://lnkd.in/eFrN3ru6
