Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that predominantly affects low and middle-income countries, with India bearing the third-highest global burden. In central India, approximately 1 in 86 births are affected by SCD, with around 20% of these children dying before their second birthday. PATH, in collaboration with the public health department of Maharashtra, is providing technical assistance to accelerate the rollout of the National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission (NSCAEM). The mission aims to enhance the availability, accessibility, and quality of SCD-related health services by: • Integrating sickle cell disease management in primary health care and establishing a continuum of care for complex conditions • Strengthening supply chains to ensure point-of-care test kits and medications are available at all facilities • Leveraging community platforms to raise awareness and counter stigma associated with SCD Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eSWf6z_7 Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India | National Health Mission, Maharashtra | #SickleCellDisease
