A new study published in The Lancet found that not only did Black and Indigenous people face the highest mortality rate across the country, but they also had the highest mortality rates for nearly every cause of death nationwide. That means that whether you have been diagnosed with diabetes, kidney disease, or a neonatal disorder, if you are Black, you are more likely to die from it than your white neighbor in almost every U.S. county. The Shakti Conclave 2.0 held in Bengaluru shed light on the significant gender inequities in heart disease awareness in India. The conference concentrated on the lack of education and information on heart problems among women, causing late diagnosis and treatment. One key outcome of the research done by the organizers was that women had little knowledge of heart disease symptoms and risk factors, and evaluated their own risk factors lower than their objective risk value.
