American Airlines has shared that it is working on several initiatives to enhance its #loyalty offering, including working on basics like making earning easy and letting members benefits from more #rewards before, between and beyond status levels.   Vasu Raja, American Airlines’ chief commercial officer, last week shared that certain sources of revenue have exhibited faster and more consistent growth, with revenue annualized growth for the 2019-2023 period being 4.3% in case of its #FFP, as compared to 2.1% for long-haul passenger and 2.9% for short-haul passenger segments. Referring to AA’s travel rewards program, AAdvantage, Raja said despite its size, the program has significant growth potential, and it is underpenetrated in the travel landscape. The company shared that American co-brand is 6% of US air travellers, and AAdvantage is 23% of US air travellers. So the plan going forward is to make it easy to be an AAdvantage customer, making it the most rewarding program, differentiate their travel experience and refresh partnerships.   As for the focus on putting everyday spending on its #creditcard and letting members earn miles, the focus is on shopping (groceries, home renovations, pre-vacation shopping etc.), dining out, hotel bookings, and booking events (concerts, sporting events, theatre etc.).     In the first half of 2024, AA is working on expanded redemption benefits and exclusive benefits to status customer, and in the second half, the plan is to expand cash and #miles redemption for vacations, events and experiences, even more superior redemption benefits for status customers, and exclusive access to premium content for status customers. “Our revenue is increasingly driven by AAdvantage customers who demand premium content,” said Raja. Airline status - maximising both CX and revenue generation #MegaEvent2024 in Calgary, Canada What can make customer insights actionable is a vital topic for travel marketers. In this context, the role of #zeropartydata, which a consumer provides intentionally and shares with a brand, can’t be undermined. The question is – what in a #loyalty initiative can result in such a valuable piece of information, for instance, what is the intent of a member, what do they like that the brand offers and so on. There are ways in which #airlines and other travel brands can garner zero-party data. If served right, members of a #loyaltyprogram can proactively provide information about themselves. One way is to count on the prowess of airline status. The team at Loyalty Status Co emphasises that status is an airline’s most powerful tool. As airlines target high-value consumers, it is up to them to capitalise on what they already have about their members. Be it for creating value in their members’ everyday lives or enhancing the travel experience, whenever an airline hears back from a member, it needs to act. Yesterday at the TravelTech Show in London we've taken the pulse of airline distribution. The audience included travel buyers and travel management companies who were curious to hear about airlines' progress with offers and orders. If I can pick three points from our discussions: 👉 The debate has moved from "why" and "when" to "what" and "how". Julian Meersse shared the 2030 timeline of Lufthansa Group for Offers and Orders. I explained our role at Threedot in supporting airlines, travel agents and technology companies in this transition to digital retailing. 👉 Offer personalization: I was asked to pick a use case in the corporate space. I gave the example of an airline and a corporate negotiating a special deal with specific benefits per type of staff. How long does it take to implement the agreement in a GDS with filed fares? Can NDC and dynamic pricing help reduce the timeframe from one year to one month or one week or one day? 👉 Order servicing: I reacted to the pain point of servicing NDC bookings. Technology solutions exist today, as showcased at the event, where travel agents can automate post-booking activities for NDC bookings with the same features as in a GDS. In the last week we've seen multiple major #loyaltyprograms incorporate #accountlinking into their existing loyalty partnerships - allowing customers to earn and burn the same currencies across either brand's inventory. The tie-ups in question are the Etihad x JetBlue partnership... https://lnkd.in/dX33gdVb ...and the one between Finnair and IAG Loyalty, one of multiple progressive steps in the last 12 months alone from the issuer of Avios. https://lnkd.in/d_MXc-NC This is part of a much wider trend towards greater points liquidity. Starbucks created a similar link to Delta Air Lines a few months ago, and also this week hinted at an upcoming expansion of its loyalty partner network into different categories of consumer brands. 'Points liquidity' - making points easier to earn and spend, much like real money - has the effect of making your currency more valuable to customers, because it's more useful. Account linking, and adding loyalty partners, were historically quite difficult and expensive, but have become far easier with modern technology.
