Who makes the Chimera engine? Thus, the hybrid. Hermeus has designed and built an engine it calls the Chimera that runs a ramjet and a slower-speed turbojet in the same tube. The turbojet is functional even at a standstill, so it's capable of getting Quarterhorse down a runway and into the air, where it'll accelerate to Mach 3 before shutting off. Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. Exotic #aeronauticalengineering design for engines. This video is a great primer to explore and understand what’s coming in the next miltiary manned/unmanned planes and missile systems. Eventually this will trickle over into commercial use, some already are in progress by certain #aerospace #startups. I love the fact that these designs are going from merging 2 design systems into 3 to build a very versatile hybrid engine. Jet (“Low Speed”) Ramjet (Mach 2 and Above) Scramjet (Higher Speed, Mach 10 and above) Rotating Detonation (Hypersonic, Low Fuel Consumption) Amazing stuff.
