Think about an industrial setup with 100 robotic arms working together to achieve an ambitious target suddenly comes across to a halt by power loss either due to the grid or the system power failure. This interruption can be catastrophic and the system recovery can be time consuming and expensive. There are many ways to workaround this situation to minimize the system downtime with a faster (less expensive) recovery. Couple of systems hacks like the predictive maintenance, adding redundancies in power supply/backup, battery backup of critical metadata in system's RAM (SRAM) or event triggered data backup in flash memory (from SRAM) using a local power backup like battery or super capacitor/s. The predictive maintenance and the power supply redundancies help to mitigate any unscheduled power interruption while the SRAM backup mitigates any slow system recovery. The SRAM offers the write speed while the flash memory offers nonvolatility (though with limited endurance). What if you have an option to replace the SRAM Flash memory battery backup with a monolithic IC solution which offers the SRAM like write speed with instant nonvolatility. I may sound too demanding and ambitious but the truth is Infineon has already achieved such reliable memory solution and shipping volumes into highly reliable systems like industrial, medical, automotive, space and many more applications for more than a decade. The following Robotic arm demo provides a glimpse of Infineon F-RAM (EXCELON F-RAM family) which not only offers a very high nonvolatile write throughput at bus speed (432Mbps) with virtually unlimited endurance but also order of magnitude lower power (both active and standby) with built in functional safety and reliability. Infineon F-RAM cells guarantee a minimum of 100 trillion write cycles across its operating range; this claim is not only hard to imagine but almost impossible to break it by science/engineering experiments). I think I have praised it enough 😊. Now, it's time to watch this video and realize it yourself.......
