My latest editorial, titled "Rethinking Japan’s Health System under the Planetary Health Framework," has been published in Health System & Reform Journal. In this article, I describe the international momentum toward climate-resilient, low-carbon health systems, and delve into a critical analysis of the Japanese government's engagement in Climate Change and Health. I firmly believe that it's time for the Japanese government to take a more active role both internationally and domestically to drive essential reform for the sustainability of the health system. Climate change and health are interconnected, and addressing this connection is crucial for the well-being of our society and planet. Through this editorial, I aim to shed light on the importance of government involvement in this vital issue. I invite you all to read the full article to gain insights into the challenges and opportunities ahead. https://lnkd.in/eNt8Qn3E #ClimateChange #HealthReform #PlanetaryHealth #Japan #HealthSystemReform

A refreshing read for some, maybe an eye opener, or a deeply held belief for others. For me, it was a relief to find that there are thinkers who have successfully articulated a fundamental issue that, I believe demands attention and action 🌍📚 This Aeon article, co-written by Jonathan Blake & Nils Gilman explores how traditional politics fall short in tackling global challenges like climate change and inequality. It suggests that a new, more integrated approach is essential for Progress 🌱🌐 For years, I’ve reflected on these matters without finding many interested in such exchanges. We see in all the political attempts a lots of talking, sometimes an unfortunate on how to fix symptoms, and lots of failure to find agreements that could lead to meaningful changes 🤔💬 Those confronted with this kind of thought for the first time may see a hint of utopianism. I see it as an obligatory change before we can truly start to operate as a thriving species for the next 100 years 🚀🌟 Articulating such a change will require more than just political engagement; and today, businesses appear very well equipped to foster cross-border collaboration, to advocate for non-country based system and to push politics to deeply reasses themselves and get back to global strategical thinking 🏢🤝🌍 Read on: https://lnkd.in/eD-mVWpB

Lifespan vs Healthspan? How do you want to spend the last 10-20years of your life? A question I often pose to my patients. As Prime Minister Lawrence Wong highlights at the 20th anniversary summit of the World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders, we are living longer but not necessarily in good health. Rather than seeking a quick fix to a health problem, opt to learn and adopt healthy habits that are more sustainable and lead to a healthy Lifespan = Healthspan. Let’s change the paradigm in our healthcare model - Proactive and preventative care over the current status quo of sick care. This encapsulates the essence of Lifestyle Medicine and the 6 pillars of health. Thank you for posting Juliana Chan, PhD Singaporean Society of Lifestyle Medicine (SGLM) #lifestylemedicine #SGLM #healthspan

Do we want to live till 100? 🤔 Sounds good, but here’s the catch… Our life spans may have increased, not necessarily our health spans. 💊 These were hard-hitting points raised by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the 20th anniversary summit of the World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders yesterday. 500 international delegates from all over the world, in sectors ranging from politics to finance and media, were in attendance. PM Wong suggested 5 simple tips for living better. He said they were super simple, but also super hard at the same time. After the fireside chat, many delegates told me how surprised to find that we have such a young, smart and candid leader in charge. One even asked if they could borrow him for their country! 😅 PS: Check out the 5 tips and let me know what do you think. Easy or hard to do? #weforum #yglsummit #wef #linkedintopvoices ♻️ repost if you prefer health care over sick care 💡 follow Juliana Chan, PhD for more updates from the Summit!
