‘Together with our partner RemakerSpace, which is part of the PARC Institute of Manufacturing & Logistics run by Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, we are supporting Glory in identifying materials, components and processes that can help them realise the benefits of additive manufacturing for their low volume production parts.’
Have you ever heard about additive manufacturing? Even if the term doesn’t ring a bell, you are probably familiar with one of the most well-known examples of this manufacturing practice: 3D printing. Additive manufacturing refers to the process of building a new part one layer at a time, and it can be a way for businesses to reduce physical stock, shorten lead times and cut tooling costs. This was also the case for Glory, an international leader in cash handling machines and systems. Together with our partner RemakerSpace, which is part of the PARC Institute of Manufacturing & Logistics run by Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, we are supporting Glory in identifying materials, components and processes that can help them realise the benefits of additive manufacturing for their low volume production parts. Learn how additive manufacturing made a difference for Glory and discover how this approach to spare parts can support your business in extending your product life cycles: https://bit.ly/3XfWPsm #CircularEconomy #AdditiveManufacturing #Collaboration #Innovation

IMA Journal of Management Mathematics (IMAMAN) - https://lnkd.in/epg29_BD Aris Syntetos [Editor-In-Chief, Cardiff University] Imagine that the IMA is starting from scratch to create a new set of journals for the applied mathematics community. They might propose three broad categories to cover their interests: · mathematics for understanding things (science) · mathematics for making things (engineering) · and mathematics for managing things (management) These categories are collectively covered by the eight IMA journals, with the last one being the IMA Journal of Management Mathematics (IMAMAN). Perhaps its first editors, Ray and Roy, had this trichotomy, science, engineering, management, in mind when the journal was launched in 1986. We cannot know for sure, but it is interesting idea. What we do know is that Ray Cuninghame-Green was Professor of Industrial Mathematics at the University of Birmingham and Roy Stainton was Professor of Operational Research at the University of Southampton. Ray was a pioneer of max-algebra (today also known as tropical mathematics), and Roy served also as President of the UK OR Society (ORS). Clearly, these guys were not as famous us other similar, contemporary partnerships, viz. Simon and Garfunkel, French and Saunders, but they took the bold step to back this beautiful journal. Take “last-mile logistics”, for example, a contemporary transportation problem the management of which can benefit from good maths The latest two special issues of the journal are devoted to sports (issue 4, 2021) and last mile logistics (issue 4, 2022). The Editor-in-Chief also interviewed the guest special issue editors for videocasts that are available on YouTube at: https://lnkd.in/ejvX3Q59 and https://lnkd.in/eDA95PZe. These videos are an interesting and informative introduction to the journal. We publish only 4 issues per year, and no more than 30 papers (and we plan to keep it this way), and our website is nicely organised and easy to navigate. We are currently strengthening our social media presence. Ali Emrouznejad is looking after that and if you have any suggestions, please direct them to him. You can follow our journal @IMA_Journal on Twitter (https://lnkd.in/eRVbaJt5) and LinkedIn (https://lnkd.in/edECj6Nw). We wish to see IMAMAN positioned within the top tier of publications on the interface between maths and management. Please take a look at our website and the articles we publish. We hope they will inform your research and influence your practices. Acknowledgement Aris Syntetos would like to thank Phil Scarf and Kostas Nikolopoulos for comments on earlier drafts of this article.
