Sometimes you just need to act to figure out what's going on. In the military, they call this reconnaissance by fire. Founders can apply this by understanding that a lot of the time you've got nothing to lose. Send that letter, propose that new idea, and just act. It may not go your way or you may get an opportunity out of it. Either way, you need to push what you're doing through continuous, consistent action. #founders

Question for all the veterans (and non-veterans, if you can relate) in my network. As I continue my transition from the military, I recently cleared CIF and found myself face-to-face with 20 years of military gear. While searching for the required turn-in equipment, I stumbled upon my initial issue BDUs 😳. Now to the question: is attempting to fit into your initially issued military uniform the equivalent of trying on your wedding dress on your 20th anniversary? Asking for a friend, of course. The life lesson here is that we all change. Some will get bigger, some will get smaller, and some will stay the same, but that does not make it good or bad. It's our interpretation of the situation that makes a difference. In my case, I have grown since 19-year-old James was handed his first uniform. I have become stronger, faster, and wiser! So not being able to put something on from the past was okay and comical for me. Growth takes time and reflection. Let's embrace the changes we have gone through, and acknowledge the growth we have achieved. Cheers to the past and the present! 🍻 #transitioningservicemembers, #growth, #coffeethought

Today, on Veterans Day, we honor the brave men and women who have served our country. In the military, teamwork is more than just a buzzword. Teamwork that is essential to their success. It's a matter of life and death. Soldiers rely on each other to complete their missions, and they learn to work together quickly and efficiently, even under the most difficult conditions. Here are just a few of the ways that veterans demonstrate teamwork: 🔥They trust each other with their lives. In combat, soldiers know that they can count on their comrades to have their backs. This trust is built through shared experiences and rigorous training. 🔥They communicate effectively. In order to coordinate their actions and achieve their goals, soldiers must be able to communicate clearly and concisely. They also need to be able to listen and understand the needs of their teammates. 🔥They support each other. When one soldier struggles, the others step in to help. They know that everyone is stronger when they work together. Veterans bring these teamwork skills to the civilian world as well. They are often sought-after employees because they are able to build relationships, collaborate effectively, and solve problems as a team. So today, let's not only thank our veterans for their service, but also celebrate the teamwork that makes them so successful. #VeteransDay #Teamwork #ThankYouForYourService

While our first three posts in this series focused generally on employment, our next three ways to be a Soldier For Life involve using your voice. The first two ways you can use your voice to be a Soldier For Life are so interconnected that it's almost impossible to separate them: inspiring others and telling your story. This week, we will focus on how you can be a Soldier For Life by being an inspiration to others. Our goal here at SFL is for our Soldiers For Life to return to their communities after they hang up their combat boots as Army ambassadors and leaders of character, commitment, and service who are proud of their service, who tell their Army stories, who help other veterans find employment, who stay connected to their Army, and who use the power of their collective voices to be an inspiration to others and encourage future generations to serve. Be an Army ambassador. Set an example by showing how you continue to live the Army values as a veteran. Help others see why service is so important. Inspire the next generation to serve. We know we say this a lot, but these actions are so vitally important that we can’t say them enough. Use your voice and spread the word. Part of how you can do this is by telling your story, which will be our topic next week. #MissionSFL #BeASoldierForLife #ArmyAmbassador

As Veterans Day falls tomorrow on a Saturday, our nation observes Veterans Day on Friday. Let's pause to express our deepest gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our great nation. Your commitment to protecting our freedoms has not gone unnoticed, and we are immensely thankful for your service. In honor of Veterans Day, here are three fun facts that highlight the contributions of our veterans: 1. Did you know that veterans bring a wealth of skills and talents to the workforce? From leadership and teamwork to problem-solving and adaptability, their military experience translates seamlessly into the business world. 2. Many veterans transition into entrepreneurship after their military service. In fact, veteran-owned businesses play a significant role in the U.S. economy. 3. While their military service may come to an end, the spirit of service lives on in veterans. Many continue to positively impact their communities through volunteer work, mentorship, and leadership roles. To all the veterans out there, thank you for your service, dedication, and the invaluable contributions you make to our nation.

Certified Career Coach helping ambitious or frustrated people negotiate better salaries, benefits, raises, promotions, and advancement.
I am forever grateful to those of you who have served in the military. And some of you have been my favorite clients! For some, the transition from military service to civilian life is neither easy nor smooth. Whether you’ve been out of the military for five months or five years, I've noted unique obstacles—both externally and within yourself—that can make finding and maintaining employment a daunting task. I ran across this article on the ‘hero veteran" trope that limits job options and damages post-military careers. Veterans: What do you experience? Employers: How do we break through this limiting narrative in order to create meaningful opportunities for our nation's veterans? https://lnkd.in/eUaWmAa2 #careercoach #careerfocus #careeradvancement #careertransition #stuckinacareer

Veterans share something in common. They all raised their hand in service to our country. But they’re also a diverse group of individuals that come from all walks of life with different backgrounds, interests, and talents. This Veterans Day, we’re combatting veteran stereotypes to increase understanding, promote greater connectedness and honor their service. What can you learn about a veteran in your life to engage in more meaningful dialogue? #BeyondTheThankYou Special thank you to just a few of our CVN Veterans featured here: Tracy Neal-Walden, Ph.D. (Col, USAF-Ret), Jesse Covino, Mike Fleming, Arturo Garcia, Anne Danczyk, Joyce Saraos, Jeff Barnello https://lnkd.in/g6rCst3J

"Why do general officers get paid board positions and not CSMs, Matt? It's not fair!" What's not fair about it, I asked. "They're using their influence and networks for opportunities." So can you. Look-- We 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 our paths. Many choose to be "behind the flag". Others choose to build their own brands. It's not "𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨" to build #personalbranding in the military. Oftentimes, opportunities are earned through how we're known -- and who knows us. What are you known for? Who know you? Remember-- Networking is 🔑! #QuickNote #Military #Networking
