Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a powerful reminder of freedom and resilience. On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved African Americans were emancipated, marking a significant milestone in the journey toward equality. As we honor this historic day, let's take a moment to reflect on our history, celebrate the progress we have made, and renew our commitment to creating a future grounded in justice, equity, and inclusion. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Juneteenth2024 #CelebrateFreedom

Did you know? The UN Recognizes Peace as a Human Right. In 2016, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Right to Peace, affirming that peace is a fundamental human right. This declaration is a crucial step in preventing armed conflict and promoting a culture of peace worldwide. Let's work together to uphold this right and build a more peaceful world for everyone, including the LGBTQIA community. #didyouknow #humanrights #peace #LGBTQIA #Peace

On International Women's Day, we recommend this recording of the #Viadrinicum discussion "War, (Re-)Construction, and Feminist Futures" (in cooperation with Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder)) with Linda Gusia, Nataliia Otrishchenko, Oksana Potapova and Claudia Eggart. Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine is having a significant impact on gender relations and severely affects women's social, civil, cultural, and economic rights. While women play a central role in addressing the ensuing humanitarian crisis, their participation in decision-making processes, especially at the official level, has not received much attention, so far. The panel discussion inquires what Ukraine's reconstruction might look like from a feminist perspective. Who decides what should be rebuilt and how (differently)? What would be feminist strategies and utopias against the reproduction of patriarchal power relations? Do feminist utopias have the capacity to incorporate difference as a capacity of mutual learning and growing, instead of a marker of social distinction (and its inherent tendency for suppression)? The speakers also discuss, which (urban) infrastructures need to be rethought to establish more social justice and ask how the experiences of feminist struggles in Kosovo during and after the war can be made fruitful in this context. Last but not least, we ask how a process of learning from each other could look like in practice. https://lnkd.in/eJquS2CE

ECPS Commentary Revealing the Intricacies of Gendered Islamophobia and Populism through the Lens of Transnational Feminist Endeavors By Hafza Girdap As transnational feminist scholars and activists, it becomes imperative to intervene in feminist epistemologies by carefully discerning the nuances among the concepts of anti-Islam, anti-Muslim, and Islamophobia. An essential focus lies in understanding the ongoing transformation of the new transnational anti-Islamic movement from ethnic-based nationalism and oppressive authoritarianism towards a liberal standpoint that advocates equality, justice, and democratic values. This involves active participation in knowledge production through the experiences and agency of the complex subjects central to debates: Muslim immigrant women. https://lnkd.in/dZEKY8yS
