It is always great to see sites where there is a strong hand protection policy in place so that regardless of who attends site they are issued with Traffi gloves. The UK Secretary of State for Defence was issued with a pair of Traffi TG6240 gloves for his dockside visit. When a United States Navy Sailor re-enlists, they are literally signing a contract for a set time period in which they agree to go into harm’s way when their nation calls. Re-enlistments can only be performed by an officer. And I’m always honored to be asked. It’s tradition that the re-enlisting Sailor(s) can choose the time and place of the ceremony. I’ve done these on top of million gallon fuel tanks in Afghanistan, on home plate at Dodger Stadium, on the beach in Hawaii, but never in the “Confidence Chamber,” particularly when it was charged with chemical gas. The chamber is designed to prove that the gas mask works. And how to change the filter without endangering yourself. And what to do if the seal around your face is inadvertently breached. While the gas used for training is merely a highly potent version of tear gas, it makes the point. (The small pan over the flame heats a tablet that creates the invisible gas). In expeditionary logistics, this is a training evolution that each Sailor does at least once a year to help maintain proficiency. Dodger stadium was pretty awesome, but this takes the cake. Best re-enslistment ceremony ever.
