PMG hosted another WIMO’s Lunch and Learn this time with the Crane Department. Crane Supervisor Mike McAndrew led a very informative presentation on the equipment, operation and safety protocols used for our Crane Team. A tour followed of the DB Pacific, including an exhilarating climb all the way to the top! It was a fantastic opportunity for the women of PMG to get a better understanding of the outstanding job our Crane Department does every single day! On National Maritime Day, we celebrate and honor the vital contributions of the maritime industry and those dedicated to its advancement. This year, we have a special reason to celebrate as we congratulate Jeff Ring on receiving a scholarship from the Propeller Club of San Diego! The Propeller Club of San Diego hosted their annual lunch on the USS Midway, presenting scholarships to four well-deserving individuals. PMG was proud to celebrate with our very own Jeff Ring, who has been an exceptional intern for the past two summers. Jeff began his journey with us in the summer of 2022, demonstrating an outstanding work ethic that led us to continue his involvement as a deckhand on weekends and school holidays. He returned in the summer of 2023, further impressing us with his dedication. After applying to Cal Maritime in October 2023 and being accepted in November, Jeff continued to work with us during school breaks, even earning school credit in January 2024. As Jeff prepares to start his studies at Cal Maritime for the 2024/2025 school year, we want to express our appreciation for his contributions and celebrate his bright future. Thank you, Propeller Club of San Diego, for recognizing Jeff's potential and supporting the maritime community. The “Juan Sebastián Elcano” is a Spanish Navy midshipmen training vessel. She is a four masted topsail schooner with a hull made of iron and a crew composed of 220 members, including midshipmen. Each of her four masts is named after the other training ships which preceded her (Blanca, Almansa, Asturias and Nautilus). She was launched in 1927 and delivered to the “Armada” in 1928. Since then, she has completed 77 training voyages including ten circumnavigations of the globe. She is the third-largest tall ship in the world, and is the sailing vessel that has sailed the furthest, covering more than 2,000,000 nautical miles in her lifetime.
