Did you know? People with disabilities make up an estimated 20% of the poorest citizens in the Indo-Pacific region. Australia must commit to being a champion of disability equity and rights in all its international engagements. 🌏🤝 We urgently need to ensure Australia’s future as a leader in this area by making the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s new International Disability Equity and Rights Strategy ambitious, accountable, and well-resourced. As a prosperous nation, we can and MUST do more to support the millions of people living with disabilities in our region. It’s time to increase funding from within our existing aid budget to make a real difference. 💪💬 Sign the petition: https://lnkd.in/gVz2RA-8 #DisabilityRights #EquityForAll #Australia #InclusiveFuture #InternationalAid DFAT Senator Penny Wong Pat Conroy CBM Australia Lyn Morgain

“When it comes to intersectionality for migration and disability, there is still a big gap to tackle. There is a need to amplify the mobility of people with disabilities beyond borders amidst our unwelcoming system that is exclusionary, leaving out migrants and refugees with disabilities“ 👉 Read more about peer-to-peer support in transforming disability inclusion in migration and beyond published by our 4th Migration Youth Forum Youth Delegate Mulenzi Tonny in the latest MYCP blog post 🙌🏼 https://lnkd.in/eHEW8SMY

This is the last in our series of basic principles we feel are MUST HAVES in the Canada Disability Benefit. Shape the CDB 7 Key Principle #7 Keep disabled people involved. Nothing about us without us! It is time for the government to stand up to its word. Concern: Disabled people feel that their input for government consultations went unheard – and in the advent of the Accessible Canada Act, this time was meant to be different. Disabled people are upset because the regulations are not coming close to meeting the needs they have clearly expressed as people with lived and living experience of disability. We want the government to honour Nothing About Us Without Us. Solution: Respect the promise of "Nothing About Us Without Us" by acting on disabled people's recommendations from the Canada Gazette consultation. #BetterTheBenefit #DisabilityWithPossibility #DisabilityWithoutPoverty

We're excited to share that Rights Information and Advocacy Centre (RIAC) is now part of the Welcoming Disability Campaign, joining forces with over 70 organisations to advocate for immigration policy reforms in Australia. This campaign seeks to eliminate discrimination from migration health laws and policies, reflecting RIAC's commitment to the rights of people with disabilities. As our CEO, Dr Sandy Ross, puts it: "At RIAC, we believe in a society where inclusivity is the norm, not the exception." We envision a future where disabilities aren't barriers but an integral part of our diverse community. Key reforms include removing discriminatory exemptions in the Migration Act, aligning the Significant Cost Threshold with international standards, and recognising special education as a valuable community investment. Join us as we strive for a society where disability doesn't deter equality.
