💡 Starting a Company? 💡 As I reflect on my journey, I'm reminded of the dreams I had as a child - dreams of creating a business with a mission to uplift communities. Those dreams were once just ink on paper, uncertain if they would ever come to life. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in Berkeley's Method of Entrepreneurship intensive boot camp at the UC Berkeley Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology. It brought together 80 entrepreneurs, each with unique ideas and backgrounds. On day one, I stood before a packed audience and pitched my vision with my heart pounding. It was nerve-wracking, but the interest I received made it all worthwhile. The rest of the week was a whirlwind of little sleep, conversations with industry mentors, and challenges to my thought process - the kind of growth I thrive on. The culmination was the recognition of Credifi as a winner 🏆 Our product is dedicated to helping immigrants gain access to credit. Winning brought a flood of emotions as I thought of the immigrants in the United States facing disadvantages in the financial system. These people work tirelessly in pursuit of a better life and banks are turning their backs on them. They may not have the chance to stand on the stage I did, but they deserve economic empowerment. We entrepreneurs know many defeats. It's par for the course. As we approach graduation for this Goldman Sachs OMBW program, one of the questions (two weeks in a row) within my small group was what the entrepreneurial journey has taught me about myself. Both weeks, I struggled to come up with anything new. Honestly, I knew I was crazy (just maybe didn't know how crazy) I knew I was persistent I knew I was determined I knew I was creative in my approach to life and challenges I knew my approach and perspective about things was different than many I knew (and know) where my help comes from ✝️ This journey has taught me the depths of all these things and definitely made me stronger. Today is the day I, along with the other 29 members of cohort 31 from the Philadelphia Goldman Sachs 10KSB Program, graduate. 94 days ago, our cohort met for the first time over Zoom to get ready for our next three months together. Each week I found myself recognizing more of our shared similarities and our shared struggles with our businesses, our people, and ourselves. We became family. I am remembering the countless Friday morning I had to be up by 4:30 so I could be out of the house before 5:30 to drive over 2 hours to Philadelphia, work through the program until 5:30, and turn around and drive 2 1/2 hours back home. Not to mention the time away from my family and the business. It took sacrifice. I recognize that entrepreneurship and the challenges as well as dreams that are deep down in your belly, those who are non-entrepreneurs can never fathom. But those who get it, just gets it and the possibilities and rewards are endless. And this bond that we’ve created over the past 3 months will last a lifetime. Today I look forward to the 30 of us standing shoulder to shoulder to celebrate the hard work that we’ve put in developing these growth plans for our businesses. It’s graduation day today!!!!
