Where did you buy your Christmas dinner?
I returned to the UK on the 22nd December and sadly due to some family issues was facing Christmas lunch on my own. So I headed out to M&S Simply Food in Nottingham to find something lovely to eat. Imagine my delight to find Xmas in a box - for £40 give or take, I got a stuffed turkey breast, roast potatoes with lardons, red cabbage, chanterey carrots and gravy.....in a box ready to go
Was it as good as cooking my own?
No, not really, but the fact that they had that solution there on the shelf (and still available at 11am Christmas Eve) was a joy. I added a bottle of Pouilly Fumé and some other treats and was set - and spent a fair amount.
And this underlines why Marks and Spencer is going to succeed in 2024 where others will struggle. As Hannah Boland points out, the M&S consumer is spending like normal (or even in my case upgrading for special occasions) despite cash flow crises and they have the products that solve their customers' problems such as "Christmas in a box"
And then this week, they launched the collaboration with ZOE to create their gut health shot - totally inspirational marketing and again spot on trend
If you are looking for a retailer that will grow your business and help it fly, then I would seriously be looking at M&S as the best option in 2024. Remember however, you need to be at the forefront of innovation, food trends and also have the best quality credentials! Oh and mostly produce own label.
