Oura recently surpassed 2.5M rings sold. 💍 Breaking out of the fitness tracker category, it may be reaching critical mass. Here's why 👇 ♀️Women’s Health A year ago ŌURA’s users skewed 55% male, 45% female. Today it’s 60/40 female to male. No accident, the brand has vocally doubled down on women’s health. 2021: Launched Period Prediction. 2023: Launched Cycle Insights. 2024: Launched Pregnancy Insights. Plus it started factoring cycle-related physiological changes—like high temperature and heart rate—when calculating Readiness Score. Next up, the company is partnering with UC Berkeley for menopause insights. 🫀Health > Fitness Oura leads with health over fitness. More than a sleep or exercise tracker, it’s a preventative health tool. — In 2023 it added Daytime Stress and Resilience metrics. — Earlier this year it launched Symptom Radar to predict potential illness. — Last month it pushed into heart health with Cardiovascular Age and Cardio Capacity. Addressing the metabolic health crisis, the ring also syncs with CGMs to connect the dots between glucose and sleep. Not everyone goes to the gym — but everyone wants to be healthy. 📱UX Design Oura’s design and aesthetic is a big reason why: — Most users consult their app/data 3x/day — 80% of people use the app 5 out of 7 days per week — Its # of daily active users is comparable to social media platforms Any device—or doctor—can deliver data. But Oura does it in a way that makes people feel more connected to their bodies. 💸 Subscription Revenue In 2021, the company established a subscription model. After purchasing a ring—for $300-$550 depending on the finish—customers pay $5.99/month to access all the app’s features.  Undeterred by the ongoing cost, its memberbase has more than tripled since launching. Over 20% of the company’s revenue now comes from subscriptions, and its software has become core to consumers’ daily routines. 🔮 Future Oura is well-positioned to capitalize on consumers’ growing obsession with wellness. Oura is the only wearable I’ve continued to use after a year. I’ve gone through everything from Nike Fuel Band to Fitbit to Whoop to Jawbone. A few things made Oura stick for me: 1. The ring wear style is the least obtrusive. The wrist style is good, but usually is too clunky, especially at night. Getting a block smacked into my head while sleeping is a good way to disturb quality sleep. 2. Price. Whoop had some very good insights for my health, but that $30 monthly membership is a monthly question if I am getting continued $30 benefit from the device and service. If you can overcome the $300 investment up front, Oura’s $5 monthly subscription is easier to digest in the long run. 3. The sleep tracking has been extremely beneficial. I’ve eyed the Apple Watch several times, but the daily need to charge the battery means sleep tracking is an afterthought. Sleep is the area I have the most issues with, so having accountability and suggestions on improvement is a must. 4. Although I can’t wear the Oura during most of my workouts for fear of damage (I’m looking at you kettlebells), I supplement with a Polar chest strap. The Oura app can sync those workouts for a comprehensive view of my exercise and health.

I often hear from friends that they don't want to wear anything on their wrists when they sleep so Oura fills that need state for many users. And the shift to focus on women's needs I speak to personally because it caught my wife's attention. The screenless health and wellness wearables will continue to gain momentum and we'll continue to see new form factors even based on life stages starting as infants up to seniors and their fitness/health routines. Oura is growing due to focus, being the best at what they do, and continuing to iterate based on users' needs meaningfully.

I LOVE my ŌURA ring and was an early adopter in 2022. The added insights for women has been amazing - I definitely consult my app multiple times a day and use it to guide my training so I know when to listen to my body.

Love my Oura. 3 year user, and it’s been amazing (esp as a female) to watch the insights change and improve over the years. So useful. (I originally got it during covid craziness to track my temperature to know if I was getting sick!)

I was an early adopter with ŌURA. I initially loved the objective feedback that it would give me on my sleep in my state of recovery. But after multiple years of use, I started noticing that there were inconsistencies with how I felt and what the ring was telling me. I’m not sure if my ring became defective at one point, but I would get erratic readings that just didn’t add up to how I was feeling. What started as a tool to give me better feedback ended up as a deterrent to more intense, physical activity because of my lower scores. This actually led to me becoming more physically deconditioned at certain points in my health and wellness journey. I became so reliant on what the ring was telling me I stopped listening to what my body was telling me which was never the goal. I wanted to become more in tune with my body, and I actually feel like I became more disconnected. While having never used the WHOOP , I have other friends that have shared the same experience as me but with that product instead. Just my experience. I have other friends that feel differently, and I totally respect their point of view. Hopefully Oura can bridge that gap for former users like myself and can continue to innovate and improve the product.

I've been using a WHOOP and I love it. My favorite feature is the sleep analysis and easy wake-up. Does ŌURA have a similar feature?

It’s interesting they have won over so many women with ads like this. When I saw this I was 🤮. Although I used to use it as well I gave up when the battery needing charging constantly. But it’s been an incredible journey to watch.

Oura is a powerful tool and it's focus on heart health and cardiovascular fitness is above all other wearables and on trend. Wrist based wearables for me are never that accurate. Most importantly, and I am surprised that it hasn't been mentioned yet, is the vibe. The UI is chill and supportive with Oura; not enough sleep - take it easy and don't stress. For a lot of folks that are focused on fitness and using wearables we tend to be a little, ah, focused. Having a wearable that is harvesting accurate data and also giving you a pat on the back here and there makes for a very strong fitness companion.

I cannot agree with this post more. In terms of Women's Health, ŌURA ring is completely undefeated. When I made the decision to train for my first body-building show 6 months ago, I invested in the Heritage ring. After the first day of wear, I completely ditched my Apple Watch. Not only am I tracking my workouts for my first body-building show, I'm also leveraging a health device for my recovery and cycle. Health over fitness is a new trend in the wearable device space and ŌURA is truly leading the way. No doubt in my mind that 2.5 million more rings will be sold!
