By the numbers: For a 5kWp solar and battery storage kit, it is estimated it would cost on average about $20,000 including cost of equipment, transportation, installation, operation and maintenance, spare parts (battery replacement) for a 10 year period. Batteries last between 5-10 years while solar panel between 20-25 years if efficient O&M plan is implemented. Total cost to provide electricity and digital connectivity to 10,000 clinics across sub Saharan Africa will cost about $200 million. USAID Power Africa through #HETA is providing $47 million in seed funding including Missions’ buy-in to catalyse contributions from for-profit and non-profit organizations. Powertrust has created a model that can harness this capital and drive it into projects which are working towards sustainable energy for all. The report illustrates that “the good news is that new approaches are being tested which could unlock commercial capital investing in distributed energy." Fundraising update! We are proud to share that our new Akayange Market Hub in Eastern Rwanda will run solely on solar power! Our 35 kW solar system will save us an estimated $9,000 per year, allowing us to reinvest in initiatives that accelerate rural development. This solar installation will reduce our carbon footprint and produce clean energy for decades to come! This project was made possible thanks to the support of the Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation's #SolarMoonshot Program, which provided a $25,000 grant to install solar panels at the Akayange Market Hub.   As we prepare to break ground on the new Akayange Market Hub, we are looking to expand the project and do even more to serve the local community.
