Politicians might girate depending from where the wind comes from, in an effort to please certain constituencies or save their seats. Hence, it makes them on the short term a relatively unreliable party to count on to fight climate change and to adapt to it. On the long term, even if there are swings (or acceleration and deceleration), the path is still relatively steady. This highlight however the case that one should not only rely on politicians to tell consumers what to do (in Europe) or tell companies what to produce (in the US), but on the the private sector to be proactive, driven by its economic self interest. Consumers - you and me - can to lead the way by consuming in a more sustainable fashion, and companies can lead innovation and change to bring more sustainable products and solutions to climate change and its effects.
