Leadership matters! We’re delighted to share that Rob Rain is OTO Development’s new Chief Executive Officer. He comes to us from our sister company, Johnson Development Associates, Inc., and he’ll be carrying on the legacy of OTO’s former CEOs: the late 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐎𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬, who led the company for its first 18 years, and 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐝 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫, who recently retired. Rob has been with The Johnson Group family of companies for more than a decade, initially working in private equity with 𝐖𝐉 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬. In 2014, he was named President of the Industrial Division at #JohnsonDevelopmentAssociates, where he grew the platform into one of the country’s largest private developers of warehouse space. A decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Rob spent four years as an infantry officer before beginning his private sector career. He led infantry units in Iraq and Afghanistan and received a Bronze Star with Valor for actions against enemy forces in Afghanistan.   Away from work, Rob stays busy with family life while raising four children with his wife, Dargan. He is also committed to community service, currently sitting his second term on the Spartanburg City Council and serving as an Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Trotting the globe as a child led Maria Maksimova, MBA directly to her career path today. A native Belarusian, she grew up in a well-traveled family whose roving adventures exposed her to a mélange of experiences from Eastern Europe to the Middle East and beyond. The hospitality workers she observed caring for hotel guests during those trips left an indelible impression. “𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘴,” says Maria. She always dreamed of spending her career in them, too. And now — as Director of Sales at 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐧 𝐒𝐭. 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 — she does. Summertime and the livin’ is easy … but our interns sure worked hard! These emerging young professionals are part of The Johnson Group's 2024 cohort of 25 interns from nine colleges and universities, and they spent the past three months immersed in meaningful responsibilities while turning classroom theories into real-world practice. Just before everyone headed back to school — or, in some cases, moved into full-time jobs with us — we gathered ‘round for a quick Q&A.
