Developing Young People to be Career-Ready Professionals as a Career Coach @ Singapore Institute of Technology
Be confidant. Your experiences and achievements are uniquely yours. No one else can seek claims on that. Be open to share your stories and connect with the people. Be proud of your unique experiences…because they make you, you. Stay humble. Have an open mind and heart to learn, unlearn and relearn. As people share their stories and views, those ought to serve as learning points for you to become a better person. Learn from their wins and losses. Come ready. For those who are especially seeking IWSP or full-time opportunities, come ready with your elevator pitch, resume and most importantly, with your drive and passion in your industry and to connect beyond this Career Nexus. That what makes you stand out from amongst the crowd. Enjoy. Take in the energetic atmosphere of networking with industry partners and fellow undergraduates, have a few laughs here and there, listen & connect with the stories the industry partners are sharing. You are not just taking up space. You are creating new spheres of friendships and professional relationships for yourself. #standoutfromthecrowd #careergoals
Career Nexus is SIT’s biggest networking event of the year, hosting over 200 industry partners and over 2000 student attendees. It is a platform for both students and partners to explore opportunities – be it for securing Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) or full-time job opportunities for the former, or identifying industry-ready talents to contribute positively to their company for the latter. Discover some of the insights our industry partners are eager to share with our students as they prepare for the upcoming Career Nexus 2024, happening on 17 January.

Friday Reflection: As I wrap up productive week (it's career fair season on campus, so no shortage of events), I've been pondering the role of laughter, humor, and team culture. It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind, but remembering the importance of laughter and a good sense of humor is absolutely vital. Humor isn't just about making the workplace more enjoyable; it's a powerful tool for building rapport and fostering strong teams. When we share a laugh, we let our guard down, relax, and savor the moment. I'm grateful EVERY DAY for the laughter I share with my team. So, share jokes, tell funny stories, and giggle about quirky moments – because it's not only good for the soul but also an essential characteristic of a thriving team! Happy Friday! 😄🌟 #FridayReflection #TeamCulture #HumorInBusiness #WeekendVibes

Why are careers weeks so important? According to our Principal Consultant Catherine Debray, by making time for careers weeks, organisations give employees space to take a productive, focused look at their careers. And it creates an opportunity for the organisation to learn more about their employees and their career needs, to generate new career models and initiatives that will help people grow. Crucially, careers weeks also give employees the opportunity to connect with colleagues they don’t regularly communicate with and learn from each other’s diverse career experiences. Kim replied "The best part of my job is helping individuals to land their dream positions. Sharing the news with candidates that they've been successful is incredibly rewarding. It's a privilege to make a positive impact on people's lives and to assist them in achieving their career goals."
