Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation business, announced today that the U.S. Army placed an order for additional Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles A2 and trailers. The order is valued at $108.9 million and includes FMTV A2s for U.S. Army modernization initiatives as well as Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to international partners. The FMTV A2, renowned for its versatility, reliability, and performance, supports a wide range of missions and payloads. Its unmatched capabilities include improved armor protection, upgraded drivetrain and suspension systems, providing increased payload capacity and mobility. The Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) are a series of military vehicles based upon a common chassis, varying by payload and mission requirements. The FMTV is derived from the Austrian Steyr 12M18 truck, but substantially modified to meet United States Army requirements. These include a minimum 50 percent U.S. content. There were originally 17 FMTV variants—four variants in the nominal 2.5 U.S. ton payload class, designated Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV), and 13 variants with a nominal 5 U.S. ton payload rating, called Medium Tactical Vehicle (MTV). In February 2018, the U.S. Army selected Oshkosh to build to FMTV A2. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gPjn-GKf

The U.S. Army Operational Test Command’s Airborne and Special Operations Test Directorate (ABNSOTD) recently conducted the final airdrop test of the Oshkosh® Defense FMTV A2 Cargo 6×6 Low-Velocity Airdrop (LVAD). The airdrops, which took place at Fort Liberty in North Carolina, mark a key milestone for the FMTV A2 LVAD program. The tests validated the design and capabilities of the Cargo 6×6 LVAD to ensure its suitability for the stringent demands of airdrop and follow-on operations. Developed to address the challenges of an aging medium LVAD fleet, the three Oshkosh Defense FMTV A2 LVAD variants, the Cargo 6×6, Cargo 4×4, and Dump Truck 6×6, are each engineered to fulfill a critical need for the Airborne community. Since testing began, the prototypes have successfully completed Rollover Protection Structures (ROPS), RIGEX (Rigging Exercises), Roller Loading, and Simulated Airdrop Impact Testing (SAIT). #military #defense #defence #militaryleak #usarmy #fmtv #OshkoshDefense #Oshkosh https://lnkd.in/gFW4Ef_u

The U.S. Marine Corps awarded Mack Defense a 12-month contract for the initial development of a new Medium Tactical Truck (MTT) fleet. The new family of vehicles will replace the Marine Corp’s Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement fleet (MTVR), which includes cargo, dump, wrecker, tractor and re-supply trucks supporting air-ground task force combat support missions. The Marine Corps initial development requirements for the MTT fleet will focus on three cargo variants consisting of 10- 15- and 20-foot cargo bed configurations with hybrid-electric technology for reduced fuel consumption, extended range and reduced noise for silent watch capabilities. A 70% off-road and 30% on-road mission profile will be supported by a 60-inch fording capability to traverse through water up to five feet. The vehicles will feature a 10-kilowatt on-board power generator and will have the capacity to deliver 30-kilowatts of external power. Advanced driver safety and force protection systems will be key features. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gWr38hzq

Defense major BAE Systems has inked a US$797 million deal with the US Army for its Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) program. The first purchase is worth $797 million and involves an unknown number of vehicles that will replace the old M113 APCs used by the service. The AMPV fleet has five different types of vehicles — for general use, mortar transport, medical evacuation, medical treatment and mission command. The Army can quickly cover 100km with modern fast light vehicles and easily overpower the small enemy forces guarding the target with your heavy firepower. The army can destroy the air defense units at an airfield and use it to land more troops and equipment. This would give you a strong base deep inside enemy territory. You could also bring in heavier units that could resist any enemy counterattack. https://lnkd.in/dD55pViY #army #military #defense #usarmy #vehicle

“Operating costs aside, the LCS program is still largely defined by its delays and waste. Defense News estimates the value of lost service life at $7 billion by dividing the cost of each LCS seaframe (in 2023 dollars) by its intended service life of 25 years, and then multiplying out the cost of each unused year. For example, a ship that cost $500 million and was intended to sail for 25 years should cost $20 million per year — plus operating costs, which were saved. But if it only served for five, it left 20 years — and hence $400 million worth of intended service life — dormant”.
Decommissioning these ships early amounts to a loss of almost $7 billion based on analysis by Defense News.
Can the US Navy save money by accepting the LCS as a sunk cost?

Two new military snowmobiles are launching today from Polaris Government and Defense: the 2025 Military 650 TITAN 155 and 2025 Military 850 PRO RMK 155, built off the industry-leading technology and ride-enhancing upgrades of the 2025 Polaris Snowmobile lineup. Warfighters worldwide rely on Polaris Government and Defense to provide off-road, light tactical vehicles for the most austere conditions. Polaris militarized snowmobiles, or over-snow reconnaissance vehicles (OSRVs), are a critical component of the off-road arsenal for winter warfare. The 2025 Military 650 TITAN 155 and 2025 Military 850 PRO RMK 155 have several modifications for the military mission: Blackout Mode – a single switch instantly turns off all lights for discreet operation IR Light – infrared lighting provides visibility to operators while in blackout mode White Body Panels – additional white on military snowmobiles provides camouflage 12V outlets – power or charge hand-held electronics and other mission essentials Power Boosting Regulator – automatically provides maximum electrical power at idle and low RPMs to support the 12V outlet as well as any added accessories Handlebar with Mountain Hoop – the added hoop provides better operator ride angle and control Built on the proven Matryx platform with the quick accelerating 650 Patriot engine, the 2025 Military 650 TITAN 155 is the most capable widetrack in Polaris history. The two-person workhorse accommodates a passenger and another 125 lbs in the cargo area, as well as a hitch to tow a trailer and an additional 1200 lbs of mission-critical supplies. A powerful winch provides 1500 lbs of capacity for vehicle recovery or to move obstacles. With an all-new, patented BackTrak20 rear suspension, high-clearance independent front suspension and Trailbreaker skis, the TITAN can climb on top of the snow better than any previous model – in forward or reverse. This model also has an articulating rail, allowing the extra-long track to hinge upwards at the back, and a removeable rear snowflap for even greater mobility in reverse. The transmission has high and low gearing for controlled power distribution and added initial engine torque for heavy loads. A cooling system with radiator keeps the TITAN’s engine temp optimized during slow speed operation, while towing heavy loads and in low-snow conditions for more reliable operation and dependability. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak #polaris https://lnkd.in/gmvtUAnA

After a full-rate production decision delay, the US Army has moved ahead with its Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) program and awarded BAE Systems with a deal that could top $1.6 billion, the company announced today. “Entering full-rate production is a momentous milestone in the lifecycle of a production program for both the US Army and BAE Systems,” said Jeremy Tondreault, president of the Platforms & Services sector at BAE Systems. While the deal could be worth billions of dollars for the company, the initial buy is valued at $797 million, covering production on an unspecified number of vehicles designed to replace the service’s aging M113 armored personnel carrier (APC) fleet. The AMPV fleet includes five variants — general purpose, mortar carrier, medical evacuation, medical treatment and mission command. Are you looking for opportunities to support such efforts?
