Interesting case study. Is citizenship determined by law alone? Can citizenship be acquired through other means example military service, heroic deeds, contributions to community and longevity of stay? Does the Home Secretary have the discretion to waive citizenship requirements in individual cases?

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) can significantly benefit military spouses by incentivizing employers to hire them. This tax credit reduces an employer's federal tax liability, encouraging companies to consider military spouses, who often face employment challenges due to frequent relocations. Ultimately, WOTC can enhance job opportunities for military spouses, supporting their career continuity and financial stability.

As Military Spouse Appreciation Day approaches, let's take a moment to recognize the resilience, talents, and sacrifices within our remarkable community. As a military spouse myself, I know firsthand the challenges we face. That's why I'm thrilled to announce that I am partnering with Kimber Hill , PMP, MSIS and VirtForce to urge legislators to include military spouses in the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. This is a powerful step towards breaking down employment barriers for a community that faces unemployment greater than 5x the national average.
Join us in making our voices heard and honoring our community with purpose and action. If you've been positively impacted by a military spouse, we invite you to RSVP to our special event on May 7. We'll be on Zoom all day, ready to guide you through contacting your government officials. And the best part? The entire process takes less than five minutes.
Let's advocate for real change and show our appreciation for the military spouses who make incredible sacrifices every day. RSVP now at https://lnkd.in/dars9z2Z

The Importance of Voting!
**திருக்குறள்:**
**"படைகுடி கூழமைச்சு நட்பரண் ஆறும்
உடையான் அரசருள்."** - திருக்குறள் 382
Explanation:
The king is one who possesses an army, a people, resources, ministers, allies, and a fortress.
This Kural highlights the essential components of good governance. In a democratic society, voting is a powerful tool that ensures these components are in place by giving people the ability to choose their leaders.
Voting is a fundamental right and a civic duty. It allows citizens to influence government decisions, policies, and leadership. Each vote contributes to shaping the future of the community, state, and nation.

By voting, we uphold the democratic values that our societies are built upon, ensuring that our voices contribute to the well-being and progress of our communities. Your vote matters—exercise it wisely!
🎖️ I had the privilege of watching Jared Lyons, SVA National President and CEO, address the Joint House and Senate VSO Hearing 2024. His delivery was nothing short of extraordinary, and his presence, truly commanding. A heartfelt thank you to Jared and the SVA team for their unwavering support of our military community. 🙏
📚 Diving deeper into my research on the transition from military to civilian life, especially into higher education, I stumbled upon a compelling insight by Interiano-Shiverdecker et al. (2020): "Given the benefits of the GI Bill, veterans find themselves at the intersection of two of America’s oldest social institutions - the military and higher education. Each institution with its own set of established values, norms, customs, and traditions....However, it is the stark cultural differences between these realms that significantly influence the transition experience for veterans."
This perspective sheds light on the complexities veterans face as they navigate through this pivotal phase, highlighting the need for a nuanced understanding and support system that bridges the gap between military service and academic success.

This is very easy for foreigners/immigrants to misconstrue and intentionally disrupt! the very relevant story the Black American Negroes have as American citizens. At this point until any other group files a specific claim the current talking points to the Transatlantic Slave Trade is the story of United States Chattel Slavery.
The next wrong that must be made right is paying the Black American Negroes for building this country for free through slave labor. If America has ever meant what I grew up learning and listening to as a 1980s baby. Then we must unify and pay the debts that were intentionally created by people in power to keep the Black American Negroes in chains while claiming we were free.
Please refer to the following website to get all the information needed to formulate an educated opinion on why reparations are owed, who should pay that debt back, and who are the specific people harmed by the United States government through Congressional actions? When we know better we must do better and that is exactly what the following documents were created to be the template for. The UGLY American truth in bold print for the first time ever.
Please recreate the following document to represent your States and how our people were harmed specifically through the transatlantic slave trade in your area. Then put the information forward to your local senator as I have here in Washington and that will start the process. It truly is that simple all the legwork has already been done except your specific State information and that is what the following website was created to be a template for to help facilitate the process. Thank you and as always power to the people #NegroOrBusthttps://lnkd.in/gjTnqjDe
I remember two years ago or so, I was scolded and then accused of not understanding #apartheid in Israel because I wasn’t on the front lines during the protests against the apartheid regime in #southafrica. It was an incredibly racially traumatizing experience for my staff to witness and me to experience. It took me several months to work through it. Quite honestly I didn’t think I was going to last as ED of IASJ and some days I still don’t. Since I was new at the time (30 days in to be exact), I apologized and deferred to the white people in the room as the experts. Less than a month later Amnesty International dropped its report.
I think the real failure and disconnect here is that the powers that be conveniently disregard the fact that Black people face existential threats to our right to self determination everyday in America and all over the world. While we as a nation acknowledge apartheid structures like Jim Crow it is largely couched as a thing of the past and used to absolve other parts of the US for its perpetuation of anti-Black racism. It also conveniently ignores the history of racial terror and genocide and minimizes the impacts of all of the above on our current conditions.
As of today there are 44 states considering how and if it should even include Black American history in the education curriculum. Approximately two dozen states are considering anti-DEI policies and 16 states are either engaged in districting battles over gerrymandering of Black and Brown communities and/or attacks on the Voting Rights Act altogether. We can never seem to eradicate #antiblackhate in America. And Black voters are especially sick of being used for votes and then disregarded after Election Day knowing this is our reality.
The other major issue is our World History conventiently and intentionally omits genocide and other crimes against humanity by many of our European allies against Black and Indigenous peoples, specifically in the Global South and in many cases backed and supported by US foreign policy. I just posted an article yesterday about Blackwater Founder Erik Prince calls for the US to colonize Africa and Latin America. This is a thing. How can Black voters in good conscience be asked to overlook our lived experiences with apartheid and genocide both currently and historically and not only be critical but sickened by our country’s Foreign Policy agenda more broadly and on Gaza more specifically. It is virtually impossible for Black people to not identify with the plight of the Palestinian peoples. Many of our activists and leaders have payed a great cost for standing up for their right to self determination and the current atrocities unfolding before our eyes in real time. It’s traumatizing us because it is us!!
We are awakened by and ever more present in the interconnectedness of these issues. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. quote “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” got real.
Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace
In my latest piece with Foreign Policy, I argue that Biden's Middle East policy - which has resulted in the death of 28,000 people, 150 strikes on US troops, and the death of 3 Black servicemembers - appears to be hurting his credibility among Black voters.

We’re not a direct democracy. We are a *constitutional republic.* We need to revive civic duty among young Americans. That’s why I’m for a constitutional amendment to raise the voting age from 18 to 25, but to still allow 18-year-olds to vote if they either pass the same civics test required of immigrants to become naturalized citizens, or else to perform 6 months of military or first responder service. We must be ambitious.
After the Labor Party Congress in Brisbane, it becomes a clear choice for me to choose the Greens next time around. The government has stated its intention to continue subservience to the US military war machine, AKUS and U.S. bases (which by the way adhere to US laws, not Australian) on Australian soil. They can be used to strike China without a squeak from Australia, landing us in a war against our biggest trading partner without our say so, and this is not an unlikely scenario. I want an Independent Australia, with a foreign policy aimed at cooperating with our South East Asian neighbours, with primary emphasis on the development of ASEAN. I want us to divorce from US subservience, to co-operate with the US only when it serves our own interests. Our primary aim is to cooperate with partners in our region, ASEAN.

Confederacy Authorizes Enslavement or Execution of Black Union Troops
I am learning so much about many of the racists who have been Governors, Mayors, Judges, and Presidents of the United States.
On Christmas Eve 1862, amid the Civil War, Confederate President Jefferson Davis issued orders to the Confederate Army "that all negro slaves captured in arms be at once delivered over to the executive authorities of the respective States to which they belong, to be dealt with according to the law of said States."
Several months later, on May 1, 1863, a joint resolution adopted by the Confederate Congress and signed by Davis adjusted this policy and declared that all "negroes or mulattoes, slave or free, taken in arms should be turned over to the authorities in the state in which they were captured and that their officers would be tried by Confederate military tribunals for inciting insurrection and be subject, at the discretion of the court and the president, to the death penalty."
As the Confederacy fought a war against the U.S. government to secede from the Union and form a separate nation rooted in the continued enslavement of Black people, its forces and leaders were especially angered by the Union's enlistment of Black troops. When those troops were captured or defeated in battle, their treatment at Confederate hands was sometimes deadly and brutal—evidenced by well-documented atrocities, such as the massacre of surrendering Black troops at Fort Pillow, Tennessee, in April 1864.
