Yet-Ming Chiang is a longtime professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and he’s also a co-founder of two of the most well-known climate tech companies right now: Form Energy, which is developing long duration energy storage systems, and Sublime Systems, which is commercializing cement made with electrochemistry. He's also just turned 66 and when he was 65, he co-founded three new climate tech companies, all of which are still in relative stealth mode: One in electric aviation, one in lithium extraction from hard rock resources and another involving the stimulation of geologic hydrogen. IBM is providing software solutions to the Canadian carbon credit developer, C6 Captured and the Canadian company, The Bloomington Group, to remotely measure carbon sequestration in the Brazilian Amazon Biome rainforest and Paraguayan Chaco forests. This innovative project uses IBM's AI technologies to streamline the carbon sequestration monitoring process, providing a more accurate and efficient way to calculate above-ground biomass and convert it into commercially viable carbon units. The C6 project will operate as a sophisticated calculator to monitor carbon sequestration. The project will also use an open-source geospatial foundation model, built from IBM’s collaboration with NASA and the IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite to remotely monitor above-ground biomass through historical and current satellite imagery.
