Exciting times ahead! This week marks the commencement of the highly anticipated Careers in Energy Week, a state-wide initiative that seeks to illuminate job opportunities within the energy sector to Georgia students. In one event, over 300 high school students from Southeast Georgia were given an exclusive sneak peek into our buzzing industry. At Georgia Power's Savannah Operating Headquarters, students learned about the dynamic range of careers available within the sector – from technical trades to the opportunities that don't necessarily require a four-year degree. The energy industry is ever-evolving, with a growing demand for skilled electrical workers. As Nikia M. Johnson, Ed.S, Georgia Power Workforce Development project manager aptly put it, "the objective of the event is to 'spark interest' in the energy sector and ensure students are aware of the diverse career paths at their disposal post-school." Jamal Jessie, MBA, Georgia Power Workforce Development Manager adds, "As we continue to grow our future workforce, Careers in Energy Week allows us to create awareness and educational opportunities for students across the state to learn about the many careers associated with the energy industry. As the state continues to grow, the demand for a skilled energy workforce is needed. Our goal is to connect students to those in-demand careers in energy." Here's to empowering our future workforce and lighting the way for the next generation of energy industry leaders. Stay tuned for more updates from #CareersinEnergyWeek, and follow the link to learn more! 🚀🔌💡 https://lnkd.in/g7HMiuMw #SelectGeorgia #No1WorkforcePrograms #WorkforceDevelopment

Very good read: From a utility standpoint, fiber connects all the utility’s SCADA infrastructure for monitoring substations and various devices out on the distribution side. It is also being utilized as a mechanism to backhaul data from its AMI electric meters, but the two-way capability of fiber is about to become much more important in the months and years to come. ** Completely agree ** “Virginia has invested a tremendous amount of money in fiber, even before the BEAD money arrived,” Lee said. “Our latest VATI application is to backfill the remaining holes that don’t have fiber access and targeting those pockets that, for a variety of reasons, were not included in previous applications. Our service area for fiber doesn’t exactly match our electric service territory. For example, we’ll be providing service to a substantial number of Dominion Energy customers as well, through an agreement with them that allows us to utilize their middle mile fiber facilities. We do have some pockets and some outlying areas of our electric service territory where another vendor got RDOF or CAF money to service a small portion of our service area.” *** And, yes, IOU middle mile build outs should be part of the solution whenever possible *** #Broadband #power #parternships #middlemile #connectivity #powerindustry https://lnkd.in/dcauXCpz
