In a landmark moment, the United Nations General Assembly has taken a significant step towards ensuring eye health for all. The adoption of the 'Vision for Everyone; accelerating action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals' resolution is a powerful commitment to address preventable sight loss affecting 1.1 billion people by 2030. This groundbreaking resolution is the first-ever agreement by the United Nations to tackle preventable sight loss, highlighting the importance of eye health in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It has received unanimous support from all 193 countries of the United Nations, emphasizing the global community's dedication to this cause. By 2030, the vision for everyone resolution will be realized, with countries working diligently to ensure full access to eye care services for their populations. As we celebrate this historic milestone, let's rally together and support initiatives that prioritize eye health, making clear vision a reality for everyone. Together, we can create a brighter future where no one is left behind in the pursuit of good eye health and overall well-being. https://bit.ly/3QJ8mNI #VisionForEveryone #UNResolution #GlobalCommitment

Our Executive Director Catherine Murphy will be giving formal evidence to the Scottish Covid Inquiry (SCI) today. We know that the Covid-19 pandemic disproportionately impacted women in multiple ways, impacting their physical & mental health & access to services, & affecting access to housing, employment & justice, particularly for those experiencing domestic abuse & sexual violence. The pandemic has set us back on the road to gender equality, exacerbating existing inequalities & making the most vulnerable & under-reached communities more vulnerable & isolated. It is vital that the Scottish Covid Inquiry considers the impacts on women, particularly marginalised women, throughout ALL its forthcoming work – not as a single or isolated issue. Our ED Catherine Murphy will share evidence alongside Scottish Women's Aid CEO Marsha Scott as part of a coalition of 'Scottish Women's Rights Organisations'. The group includes Engender, Scottish Women's Aid, Close the Gap, Rape Crisis Scotland & JustRight Scotland. Watch the evidence session at 10am here: https://lnkd.in/eG66ZKYM

On MMIW Day, NIEA stands in solidarity with Native communities to honor the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people. Today, we remember the lives lost, the families impacted, and the communities forever changed by this ongoing crisis. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the urgent need for justice, awareness, and action. Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people continue to face disproportionate rates of violence and are too often overlooked or forgotten. It's time to amplify their voices, uplift their stories, and demand accountability. As advocates for Native education and Indigenous rights, NIEA reaffirms its commitment to addressing the root causes of this epidemic. We call upon policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and communities to work together to end this violence. Today, we honor the resilience and strength of Indigenous women and girls. We stand with them, their families, and their communities in the pursuit of justice and healing. Together, we remember, honor, and demand change. #MMIWG #MMIWG2S #MissingAndMurderedIndigenousWomen #JusticeForMMIW #NativeRights #NIEAStandsWithYou

Today marks the end of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Today also marks International Human Rights Day. Throughout 16 Days of Activism, our community came together to raise awareness about gender-based violence and to advocate for meaningful change. Similarly, International Human Rights Day provides us an opportunity to reflect on the broader spectrum of human rights issues affecting people globally and to advocate for meaningful change. It is crucial to carry forward the momentum generated through 16 Days of Activism and International Human Rights Day to fight against gender-based violence and pursue rights and dignity for all humans through advocacy and community efforts. We all play a role in shaping a world where the rights of each individual are protected.
