Here's a novel idea for a feature for job sites (LinkedIn): Create the ability for job seekers to set a distance flag relative to their location, that requires recruiters to enter the zip code/city before contacting the perspective talent. If it's outside the perspective talent's range, automatically present a polite decline message. This would save both sides a lot of time.

The real issue when it comes to be a consultant is that you are by design a mercenary and not what company really needs which is missionaries who seek long term vision and not short term goals...

Sharing my Federal #JobSearch #tips in hope that it helps others. Do you have a tip I should add to my list? 1. Both Strategy (New role in X) and Plan (Craft targeted resume, etc.) matter. 2. It will take time (My search lasted 21 months), set realistic expectations in the context of the strategy and plan. 3. USAjobs.gov recently began posting the number of applicants to a job posting (I saw an average of 470 competing applicants). 4. Leverage platform automation (USAJ's search emails new postings, supporting application document storage, application systems saved profiles). 5. Use a copy-n-paste resource to semi-automate manual application procedures (I used iCloud Notes to avoid re-looking up job history, certifications, and save paragraph responses.) 6. There are many variations of job posting job titles for the same role. Experiment and adjust your USAJ job search key words. 7. Develop a system to know which applications remain viable. USAJ does not list if your application was referred to the hiring manager or not selected for further review, even though you receive an email about those application statuses. #jobpostings

Most candidates: “I have experience of {specific technical work} on {specific technical platform}.” Standout candidates: “I used my {specific skill} to deliver {specific business outcome} resulting in {quantifiable business benefit} for {area of business}.”   How you present yourself as a candidate makes a huge difference.
