With the election looming large, we have some reminders of where the respective parties lie when it comes to energy, the policies they are proposing and the positions they plan to take beginning with the Conservatives and Labour, one of which will form the next government barring anything historic. Comparing and contrasting the energy and environmental chapters of each manifesto, we've looked to pick out the similarities - such as both backing offshore wind and nuclear - and the differences - Labour back a doubling of onshore wind, whereas the Conservatives are more lukewarm, while the Conservatives will bring in annual licensing rounds from the North Sea, whereas Labour state there will be no new licenses. We then look at the policies the parties are planning on bringing in to drive the energy transition forwards, as well as commitments to protect the environment. Tomorrow, we will explore what the SNP, Liberal Democrats, Green Party, Plaid Cymru and Reform have to say in their manifestos ahead of polling day on 4 July. #netzero #energytransition #generalelection #offshorewind #nuclear

Union members are pushing for two bills that will deliver safe, reliable jobs in renewables: the Net Zero Economy Authority bill, and the Future Made in Australia bill. While Peter Dutton is peddling a far-off nuclear fantasy, the Albanese Government Net Zero Economy Authority Bill will make a real practical difference to deliver support, retraining, redeployment, investment and jobs now into communities like Gladstone and the Hunter to build new clean industries and support workers and families.

LIBERAL PARTY POLICY - a MUST (PB 12th August 2024) Will the Liberal Party ever stop being a “broad church” and standalone, with a clear difference to Labor The “NO” campaign (which took forever to be announced) is categoric proof the people want and expect far more from Government in regard to every aspect of the Aboriginal Industry. Plus [nett zero, climate change, renewable energy, nuclear power generation, and so on] The Department of Aboriginal Affairs must be subject to a Royal Commission covering at least the past five decades. And in this process dismantled and restructured to be a normal truly accountable Government Department with every tentacle / entity within and /or attached thereto be subject to the same accounting CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT A detailed Policy Plan on how Aboriginal descendent Australians (particularly in remote areas) must be written that shows and will provide a pathway from “the earth” to the standards of the average Australian. There must be the same intent as the “NO” to the ‘VOICE in this Plan. A policy statement should be made NOW to the people that the Aboriginal Industry and all its tentacles will be dismantled and restructured by a Liberal Government.

Britain’s major parties are failing to offer real solutions to the energy crisis. Don’t ever let it be said that this Government doesn’t know how to respond to a major crisis. Take energy security for example – the importance of which was underlined in spectacular fashion when Vladimir Putin attempted to hold the West to ransom after his invasion of Ukraine. And as if that wasn’t a terrifying wake-up call for civilised society then there has been no shortage of reminders since of how fragile Britain’s energy system has become. Only recently, in a desperately unconvincing attempt to justify a decision to build new gas-fired power plants as a back-up to renewables, the Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho warned that we faced “the genuine prospect of blackouts”. She’s not wrong but what Coutinho conveniently forgot to mention is that it is a direct result of this Government’s failure, along with a steady procession of those that came before it, to tackle our dwindling energy resources that ministers are now reduced to doubling down on fossil fuels. What is more troubling is that the situation is unlikely to improve in the near future. On the contrary, it seems destined to get worse because it is abundantly clear that there isn’t a politician in the land with the nous to tackle a problem of this magnitude.

This afternoon the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, gave his Spring Budget in which it was argued that 'lower taxes & higher growth' would best help the UK, with Labour's policies such as the clean electricity grid pledge by 2030 enabling the risk for future tax hikes. Despite focus being on tax cuts there was some announcements for the energy sector, including: · Extension of the oil & gas windfall tax until 2029, raising an additional £1.5bn · Developing GB Nuclear and pushing ahead the Small Modular Reactor selection process to ensure that a quarter of the UK’s energy is generated by nuclear by 2050 · Purchasing potential nuclear sites in North Wales from Hitachi for £160m · £120m fund for developing energy supply chains, green technology and creating faster grid connectivity · £270m fund for the motor and aerospace industries to streamline the process of creating clean transport. #budget2024 #budget #energy #nuclear #policy

Unsurprising given the UK government's recent direction on net zero and environmental policy, but still eye-opening to read the actual numbers that show just how close the links between the Conservative party and the fossil fuel industry are: ▪️127 former oil and gas employees have recruited into top UK government roles under the Conservatives ▪️ 92 of them have worked for at least one of three major energy giants: BP, Shell or Centrica. ▪️Over 50% were appointed to public posts in foreign policy, defence and nuclear decommissioning. Now hear me out.. after a decade of our buddy that wouldn’t hold a hose, gleefully parading a lump of coal around in parliament, and telling us EVs would ruin the weekend, he got tossed out nationally. We then had a rush of climate investment, institutional capital flow and foreign investors turn up to bank roll and start our potentially massive whole of society renewable transition. So mid election cycle, Voldemort, having given up on assuring us why indefinite detention of minors in internment camps on far flung tiny islands was a great idea that we should keep doing - is now using the idea that building Nuclear Power stations, backed up by huge amounts of gas-powered electricity, is the way forwards. This despite it being uncosted, undeliverable in the near term, and technology dependent at country level on ‘Small Modular Reactors’ which don’t functionally exist as a solution yet. But hey, if the nuclear stations don’t work, in the mean time, we can… burn.. gas… to make electricity. Man these guys are smart. Almost like the Gas lobby are funding the defunct Liberal Party of Australia. And apologies if you’re not up with Australian politics, as you likely didn’t get the references. #australia #renewableenergy
