It is a great honor and a privilege to commit myself toward working to improve access to surgical, obstetric, trauma and anaesthesia care in the Africa region. I have been elected as the co-chair of The G4 Alliance Africa Working Group. Today, the Medical Procurement of Ukraine celebrates its 5th anniversary! As part of the healthcare reform in 2018, the MPU was established to handle centralized procurement of medicines, medical products, and equipment upon the request of the Ministry of health of Ukraine. With each passing year, we have grown stronger, accumulated expertise, and adopted and implemented best practices. For 5 years now, we have been transforming the healthcare supply system to improve the quality of life for Ukrainians. So, what have we accomplished during this time? Here's a small part of our achievements: 🔸 We have purchased over 41,000,000 packages of medicines and delivered them to healthcare facilities for the free treatment of patients. The total value of medicines and medical products procured by the MPU is over 22 billion UAH. 🔹 For the first time in Ukraine, we procured innovative medicines for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, which are provided to children free of charge. 🔸We have provided healthcare facilities with necessary equipment worth over 7.7 billion UAH, including items like computer tomography machines, X-ray systems, and lung ventilators etc. 🔹We procured over 100,000 units of essential equipment as part of the initiative of the President of Ukraine UNITED24 to meet the needs during wartime. 🔸This year, we purchased 15 linear accelerator systems for the treatment of cancer. 🔹More than 1,000 ambulances were handed over to doctors so that they could save the lives and health of Ukrainians. 🔸More than 3500 procedures in the electronic system Prozorro | Система публічних закупівель Прозорро were announced. 🔹We have saved approximately 8 billion UAH of taxpayers' money. As you can see, these have been incredibly fruitful 5 years during which the MPU team worked every day to provide Ukrainians with effective and free treatment, and we have no plans to stop there. And most importantly, today and always, we are immensely grateful to the defenders of Ukraine. Thank you, Lord! I am pleased to introduce our latest publication, titled : 'Revolutionizing Stroke Care in Africa: A Mini Review of the Transformative Potential of Mobile Stroke Units.' Stroke poses a significant global health concern, and its impact is especially pronounced in Africa. In this paper, we address the myriad challenges faced in African stroke care. These challenges include limited healthcare infrastructure, funding constraints, difficulties in reaching remote and rural areas, and a shortage of qualified healthcare professionals, particularly neurologists and stroke specialists. To tackle these issues, we offer recommendations that emphasize infrastructure development, sustainable funding mechanisms, solutions for rural accessibility, and healthcare workforce development through training programs and incentives. Our paper explores the prospects of Mobile Stroke Units (MSUs) in Africa. We highlight the potential for technology advancements to create more cost-effective and compact MSU models. We also discuss the integration of telemedicine capabilities within MSUs to enhance communication with specialist physicians at remote hospitals, ultimately improving stroke care outcomes. We emphasize the importance of data collection on MSU outcomes to inform evidence-based policies and enhance MSU operations. Collaboration and partnerships between governments, healthcare organizations, and international stakeholders are critical for facilitating MSU expansion. These partnerships can provide essential funding, expertise, and support for the implementation and sustainable operation of MSUs in Africa. 🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 Thrilled to share that I've officially earned my Cardiac Rehabilitation Foundation Certification (CRFC) 🏥💙 from the International Council of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (ICCPR). This journey has been incredibly enriching, and eye-opening, and I am grateful to ICCPR for the scholarship, as I am keen on making a positive impact on heart health and share in their aspirations for augmented capacity for Cardiac Rehabilitation delivery around the globe🌍 Through this short course, I have intensified my knowledge and capacity in key components of cardiac rehabilitation to include: 📝Patient Assessment and Reassessment 🍽️ Heart Healthy Diet 🚶🏼♂️Exercise Testing and Training 🚭Tobacco Cessation 💼Psychosocial Wellbeing and Return to Work 💊Medical Risk Factor Management 👩🏼🏫Patient Education and Counselling 🔄️Modes of Delivery However, it's essential to acknowledge the challenges we face in making cardiac rehabilitation a reality in Kenya 🇰🇪 with limited national healthcare system capacity and patients often grappling with financial and time constraints. My key takeaway from the course was on the Modes of Delivery that allow for modification in CR programs to cater to both healthcare system inadequacies and patients’ preferences, as determined by time and available resources, thereby increasing the uptake rate of this service 📈 🤝 Now more than ever, we must find innovative ways to bridge these gaps and ensure that cardiac rehabilitation is accessible to all who need it. Mobile medical missions are a truly unique phenomenon in #Ukraine right now, and there is nothing similar in scale and variety elsewhere in the world. They come in several types: • Self-organized groups of doctors working as volunteers in their free time. • Mobile teams funded by charitable organizations, foundations, and foreign donors. • Mobile medical services provided by public healthcare facilities, including both primary and higher levels of healthcare. For example, I know of regular medical trips to hard-to-reach settlements by gynecologists from a regional maternity hospital. The range of medical specialties in all these missions is very diverse. The principles, organization, and scope of medical care provided vary greatly. The frequency of these missions ranges widely from spontaneous, episodic trips to regular, long-term operations. Continuity of care may or may not be present. Record-keeping and statistics are also handled very differently. In regions with ongoing military actions or nearby, these activities have specific features and a close connection with the military. This grassroots activity is typical for Ukrainian society and is not governed by hierarchical interactions. The best practices of these missions should be studied and even exported abroad, considering that mobile medical assistance is a growing trend in global healthcare. Are there any inappropriate examples in mobile missions? I'm sure there are, even though it's not customary to talk about it. However, I highlight one condition that I believe is a key factor for the strategic success of mobile medical assistance: its real, concrete, and practical connection with local healthcare facilities. Currently, even the most robust medical missions are usually entirely separate from the healthcare system and do not form feedback loops that would ensure continuity of care for people, record-keeping, and resource planning for the healthcare system. 2023 was a year of significant achievements at The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ. We launched the ‘State of Eye Health in the Pacific’ research programme, providing crucial evidence for Pacific eye health leaders to strengthen their health systems. We also signed a multi-year partnership agreement with the Government of Samoa and extended our partnerships with the Governments of Tonga and Fiji. All of these are important steps towards advancing the Pacific’s vision of universal access to quality eye care. And of course, working with our Pacific partners, and with your support, we achieved some outstanding outcomes on the ground including: 🔍 81,839 patient consultations 👁️ 5,792 surgeries 🧑🏽⚕️ 23 eye specialist doctors and nurses graduated 🚐 132 outreaches held across seven countries Each consultation, surgery, graduate, and outreach has a lasting impact, improving the livelihoods and well-being of our Pacific neighbours. While I appreciate all the kind words (I truly do), I’d like to point out that this is not just another venture to add to my portfolio. It’s a higher calling to which I have a deep conviction. You have been asking for more details. Here is a brief outline of how we’re starting: 🇶🇦 I will be partnering with the largest private orthopaedic practice in Qatar, DOC Medical Center, and will bring that brand (with all of its excellent attributes) to Nigeria. 🇳🇬 In Nigeria, my practice, DOC Medical Nigeria, will co-brand with the largest private orthopaedic practice in the country, Cedarcrest Hospitals. We will start in a space that Cedarcrest has graciously assigned to us in their newly built modern hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos. This will be a marriage of two well established brands with the goal of pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the delivery of world class musculoskeletal care in Nigeria. While we will remain two separate entities, we will work closely together. We will collaborate on patient care, education, research, and many other initiatives. Please stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks. The DOC Medical Nigeria collaboration efforts will not stop with this one. This is only the first in the line of other potential collaborations with private and public institutions in the country. I truly believe that this is not the time for competition, it is time for collaboration. It is the only way we can ensure a massive shift in the quality of healthcare delivery in Nigeria. I am laser-focused on achieving this vision, and I would only consider this a failure if I didn’t try. It is time for me to put my money where my mouth is, and walk the talk. Centralized Procurement July #MPUpdate The Ministry of Health of Ukraine passed to the MPU a stable list of 23 centralized areas under the program 1400 (medicines and medical devices). The total budget for 2023 is UAH 9.7 billion (including medical equipment). In particular, UAH 2.3 billion was allocated for medical equipment. The MPU has already contracted 547 INNs, which amounted to UAH 5.5 billion. In particular: 🔹95 INNs of adult oncology for UAH 1.6 billion; 🔸102 INNs of pediatric oncology for UAH 210 million; 🔹77 INNs of CVDs for UAH 306 million; 🔸150 INNs of blood donation for UAH 444 million; 🔹4 INN of mortality for UAH 60 million; 🔸1 INN of dwarfism for UAH 9.8 million; 🔹5 INN of muscovidosis for UAH 151 million; 🔸8 INN of multiple sclerosis for UAH 96.5 million; 🔹9 INNs of endoprosthesis for UAH 104.5 million; 🔸18 INNs of adult hemophilia for UAH 393.6 million; 🔹18 INNs of pediatric hemophilia for UAH 240.7 million; 🔸20 INNs of autism spectrum disorder for UAH 7.7 million; 🔹6 INNs of immunodeficiencies for UAH 179 thousands. #medical #procurement #medicaldevices #health #MPUpdate
