The International Longshoremen's Association has paused negotiations for a new contract until A.P. Moller - Maersk and its APM Terminals subsidiary clarify their technology projects: https://lnkd.in/e3fEZSC5 The ILA accuses these projects, particularly the auto gate system, of violating their agreement by bypassing union labor. The union is concerned about job losses due to automation and has demanded more transparency on technology's role in terminal operations. The suspension of contract talks could signal significant delays and disruptions in container shipping schedules. In situations like these, OpenTrack can provide invaluable support to shippers and logistics managers by offering enhanced visibility and real-time tracking capabilities. With OpenTrack, users can monitor the impact of such disruptions on their cargo, adjust logistic strategies promptly, and mitigate the risks associated with unexpected delays, ensuring smoother operations despite the ongoing uncertainty at ports. https://www.opentrack.co/

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has made significant strides with initiatives such as the Digital Bunkering Initiative and the Just-In-Time Planning and Coordination Platform (JIT platform). 24% of licensed bunker suppliers and barge operators in Singapore have now digitalized their bunkering operations by adopting the electronic Bunker Delivery Note (eBDN). With the ability to save close to 40,000 man-days per year along with reducing compliance costs, we encourage our members to get on board with digital bunkering. SSA has recently released an FAQ document for Digital Bunkering, for more info click here: (SSA/024/24/EML) https://lnkd.in/gT2VcD96 Shipping companies and ship agents are set to benefit from productivity gains when they adopt port clearance processes and vessel passage planning modules in the digitalPORT@SGTM system. The industry would be pleased to note that from 3rd quarter 2024 onwards, tankers berthing at the energy terminals and all vessels calling at the anchorages can enjoy using the Just-In-time Planning and Coordination (JIT) platform. Existing digitalPORT@SGTM users can onboard the JIT platform by enquiring with [email protected]. Exciting times in the shipping industry! The formation of the Gemini Cooperation between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd marks a major shift in the East-West trades. With a fleet pool of 290 vessels boasting a combined capacity of 3.4 million TEU, Maersk (60%) and Hapag-Lloyd (40%) are set to achieve operational efficiency gains. But that's not all – both companies are committed to decarbonizing their fleets, contributing to a more sustainable industry. Maersk aims for net-zero emissions by 2040, and Hapag-Lloyd targets 2045. The Cooperation leaves an indelible mark on the industry's landscape. As 2M dissolves and THE Alliance undergoes changes, the pressure is on others to adapt. ONE, Yangming, and HMM face strategic decisions, and CMA-CGM, COSCO, and Evergreen in Ocean Alliance may reassess their setups. Looking forward to seeing how this dynamic landscape evolves into the early 2030s. #ShippingTransformed #ShippingIndustry #GeminiCooperation #SupplyChain #ShippingAlliances #Sustainability #LogisticsInnovation

A.P. Moller - Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd AG-Lloyd forms a new alliance : Gemini Coorporation. This is a major shake-up in the container shipping setup on the East-West trades. In December 2022 I voiced the view that the 3 main alliances would be breaking up over the coming year and we would see a new alignment of partnerships on the east-west trade. The view was that 2M would break up first and this would then snowball as especially Maersk would be needing a new partner. The 2M breakup was then announced in early 2023 with effect from early 2025. Today we see the next step unfold as the THE Alliance breaks up and Hapag-Lloyd now links up with Maersk from early 2025. This leaves ONE, Yangming and HMM in a very vulnerable position, unable to field a network matching those of Ocean Alliance, MSC and Gemini. The pressure is then on these three carriers to either lure a new partner out from Ocean Alliance, or re-invent a new service concept. But the pressure is also on CMA-CGM, COSCO and Evergreen in the Ocean Alliance. With the playing field having opened in this way each of these carriers will be asking themselves whether the current OA setup is ideal for themselves or whether a new constellation might be better. Additionally, the removal of the EU anti-trust exemption by the end of April 2024 will add significant pressure on Ocean Alliance as they will then be materially larger than the other constellations, and hence they might well become the focus for competition authorities if they have a political need to show action following the exemption removal. Alliances tend to have a lifespan of roughly 5-8 years, and hence the re-alignment we are seeing now will most likely be the competitive playing field on the east-west services into the early 2030s.

📢 BPO welcomes new members 👥 BPO Board officially confirmed the membership of 2 new entities in the Baltic Ports Organization: 👉 Port of Gdańsk 👉 Port of Södertälje Recently, the organization has been developing more dynamically and this is another admission of members in recent months. Welcome on board! The location of the Port of Gdańsk constitutes it great advantage. The outer part located directly on the waters of Gdańsk Bay includes deepwater terminals at which the largest ships that sail through the Danish Straits may be admitted and handled. They may be up to 400 metres long, with maximum draft up to 15 metres, at the depth of the basin of 17 metres. Out of more than 3,000 vessels sailing to the Port of Gdańsk, the highest number of calls is handled within one-time entries, the so-called charter entries. However, shipowners whose vessels regularly call at our quays have the possibility of receiving appropriate discounts, signing agreements with ZMPG S.A. regarding permanent shipping connections. Regular shipping lines include the Baltic Sea and the North Sea states. The connection network also covers: North, South and Central America as well as Asian countries. Regular transport is dominated by container loads, but shipowners carrying out automotive, ro-ro, conventional cargo and passenger transport also have their share in the transport market. More information ➡ https://lnkd.in/dS2_sqRb With its proximity to infrastructure, the capital and the Greater Stockholm region, Port of Södertälje holds a unique location in being placed in one of the most expansive regions in the Nordic's. Port of Södertälje is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telge AB, which in turn is owned by Södertälje Municipality. For shipping companies, railway operators, shippers, cargo owners and operators, we are an efficient and flexible link between sea, land and railway transport in the greater Stockholm region. Loading and unloading of ships, transshipments to-and-from car/rail transporters, warehousing and terminal operations are all included in our daily port activities. Our emphasis is on RoRo (Roll on/Roll off) operations, container handling, liquid and dry bulk.
