Had to stay awake until 1am for the mint, ended up browsing the 555 pieces of this crazy collection until 4am 😵 and picked a few of the "Malls" sub-genre. It's not just the technical feat to have an #AI producing these pieces of roughly 250m pixels each (you can zoom in very, very, very far to see "paintings in the paintings" à la Bosch). It's also the overall look and feel of these boteroesque characters happily and brainlessly shopping in what reminds us of a Universal Expo - maybe a thing of the past now that the world goes fast into #deglobalisation and climate change, with less bragging rights for heavy travel and #consumerism. So... I've said last night "one last piece" at 1am, 2am and 3am... Now it's 9am and after acquiring 3 Malls I am again looking for "a last one, just a small one" 😗 . 🖼️ Which Is the Most Expensive NFT Art? Pt.2 🧵: The Merge collection auction took place from December 2nd to December 4th, 2021, on Nifty Gateway. Early access prices started at $299, jumping to $400 when public access opened. The final sale price for the most expensive NFT ever was $575. Collectors aimed to accumulate mass tokens to create larger sphere NFTs. In just 48 hours, 312,686 NFTs were sold for an astonishing $91.8 million to 28,983 collectors. A remarkable achievement! While Merge tops the list, several other NFTs have sold for millions. "The First 5000 Days" by Beeple, an NFT collage of 5,000 unique pieces, fetched $69.3 million at Christie's in 2021. Beeple worked on this massive project for 5,045 days, creating a diverse collection. The NFT "Clock" by Pak is third on the list, representing the days of Julian Assange's time in a UK prison. AssangeDAO, comprising 10,000 individuals, purchased it for $52.7 million to support Assange's defense. Demonstrating the social impact of digital art and NFTs. Ranked fourth in the most expensive NFT list is "HUMAN ONE" by Beeple, sold for $28.9 million in 2021. Beeple retains remote access to develop the piece over time, creating a dynamic and visually stunning piece. NFTs are central to the Web3 movement, offering solutions for authenticity and ownership of physical objects. They're encrypted within blockchains, ensuring security. Examples like BlockBar for liquor collectors and exclusive dining experiences demonstrate their potential. NFTs open new possibilities for authentication and ownership across various domains. There's just something about owning a one-of-a-kind piece. So, when NFTs became the big thing, I jumped right in, dreaming of a fancy collection (and maybe becoming super-rich—still waiting on that part, though! 😂). Why? Because NFTs gave that assurance—if you bought it, it was the original, no questions asked. It felt like the future of art collecting. But now, in 2023, things in the NFT world are a bit different. Sales and trading volumes have gone down significantly, with a 49% decrease in sales from January to July 2023. Many are speculating that this could be attributed to the increase in AI-generated images. Yes, technology is advancing so rapidly that it is even surpassing... well, technology. And then, just when I thought I had seen everything, I came across this amazing video of a 3D printer creating an oil painting 🎨. Not just any painting, but an exact copy. As a lover of original art, I find myself contemplating whether I would hang a 3D-printed masterpiece in my home. Imagine having an exact replica of Monet's Lilies on your wall. Would that revolutionize the art world for enthusiasts and collectors? 🤔 It's certainly a thought-provoking question. The Musée d'Orsay goes NFTs! 👀 If you happen to be in Paris, do yourself a favour and visit the fantastic exhibition on Vincent van Gogh 👨🎨 and the last two months of his life that he spent in Auvers-sur-Oise near Paris. It was an extraordinarily prolific period for van Gogh - in just ten weeks, he produced 74 paintings and 33 drawings! 🖼️ The exhibition is the first to focus on this particular period and very, very well put together. When you then browse the book and gift shop afterwards, watch out for a TV screen advertising "a new form of souvenir" where you scan a QR code and purchase... one of two NFTs that the Musee d'Orsay offers in partnership with KERU and the Tezos foundation. The two come in "limited editions" of 10,000 and 2,300 NFTs, not only turning a digital memory into a collectable item, but also providing additional benefits - the "Starry Night" NFT gives you a reduced entry fee, @ 15% discount in the store, early access to future projects and some surprise prices to be won. The best part? You do not have to be familiar with web3 or wallets to purchase and use one of the NFTs - you can simply buy them for 8,90€ and 20,00€ using your credit card and register an email - the wallet gets created automatically in the background. You can still transfer the NFT to your own wallet if you prefer and know how to do that. Otherwise, the NFT remains accessible via a user-friendly web interface as well. Should museums sell NFTs? In our latest WAC Weekly Session, we talked about how major museums like The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) are entering the NFT space by selling and auctioning digital artworks. We’ve highlighted five case studies on how museums can: 1️⃣ Have generative revenue through NFT sales: Part of the sale proceeds from the Musée d'Orsay collaboration with artist Agoria on the objkt.one platform was donated back to the museum. 2️⃣ Create a transparent revenue-sharing model ensuring a balanced distribution of funds: The Museum of Modern Art and Feral File held "SOUND MACHINES" online NFT auction where 60% of the sales revenue was given to the artists and the rest was split between MoMA sound art initiatives, Feral File costs, and MoMA collection care. 3️⃣ Use blockchain to reinterpret and recreate items from the museum’s collection: Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and 0xDEAFBEEF used blockchain to create new digital art inspired by the museum's collection—"Remembrance of Things Future" 4️⃣ Establish a sales model that benefits artists directly: Sales from HEK - Haus der Elektronischen Künste Basel's NFT shop on the fxhash platform were given to artists, with HEK taking no secondary market profits. 5️⃣ Pair online exhibitions with NFT sales for fundraising: Buffalo AKG Art Museum's "Peer to Peer" online NFT exhibit and sale raised funds (half of which went to the museum) for its new media art and tech spaces. These case studies sparked debates about the role of museums in the digital art world and how they should approach NFTs: ✨ Transparency: who gets what percentage of the profits? ✨ Representation: are all artists getting a fair shot? ✨ Museum’s role: marketplace or custodian of art? The conversation also touched upon the ethical considerations, copyright issues, and the need for transparent authentication processes in the NFT marketplace. What's so special about NFA? It's a unique project that bridges the physical and digital worlds, connecting art and NFTs! NFA creates digital certificates in NFTs, ensuring authenticity for physical art pieces. Over the past year, 1800 artists have joined NFA, with 500 actively engaging in all activities and updates. 200 artists have even received exclusive NFTs as confirmation of their impact on the project. You can find these exclusive NFTs on the OpenSea NFT marketplace, securely linked to the artists' wallets. Since September 2022, NFA has collected 5500 art pieces from talented artists representing 65 countries and collaborating in 20 languages. These artworks are available for sale during the exciting 10k collection mint. The NFA team has launched 2 NFT collections since March 2023, showcasing artworks from the 10k collection. The OG stage attracted the first collectors, minting 241 NFTs and having 90 holders. The PASS stage is still live, with over 500 sold NFTs and 300 holders. Don't miss out!
