Did you know that the types of food you eat can affect your mental health? Studies comparing "traditional" diets, like the Mediterranean and the traditional Japanese diet, to a typical "Western" diet have shown that the risk of depression is 25% to 35% lower in those who eat a traditional diet. That's because traditional diets tend to be high in vegetables 🥬, fruits🍍, unprocessed grains, fish🐟, and seafood and contain only modest amounts of lean meats and dairy. New research has linked a healthy, balanced diet to better brain health and mental wellbeing. The study analysed 181,990 participants and found that diets rich in vegetables, fruits, cereals, nuts, seeds, pulses, moderate dairy, eggs, and fish improve mental health. Lead author, Professor Jianfeng Feng, said: “Developing a healthy balanced diet from an early age is crucial for healthy growth. Both families and schools should offer a diverse range of nutritious meals and cultivate an environment that supports their physical and mental health.” Click for more info: https://bit.ly/3KzVqW6 #BrainHealth #BalancedDiet #MentalWellbeing #HealthyEating #NutritionMatters

Boost your mental and physical health with just two simple things: creativity and nutrition! As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month this October, let's make an effort to nourish our minds and bodies. Studies show that creativity can reduce stress, improve problem-solving skills, and enhance mood. It's a powerful form of emotional expression that can help us process complex feelings. And when you combine creativity with nutritious food, the results are even more amazing! Take it from me - I've created a grown-up, more nutritious version of the beloved Pizza Lunchables from my childhood. Using rice cakes, prosciutto, feta cheese, and homemade tomato sauce, I was able to nourish my body and mind while indulging in a delicious treat. So, why not try something similar? Get creative in the kitchen and make a more nutritious version of your favorite childhood snack. Your brain and body will thank you! 💪🍴🧠 #mentalhealthawareness #creativity #nutrition #healthylifestyle

How to move away from the Keto Diet (the smart way) I spend the better part of 2 decades following extreme diets. Keto, carnivore, intermittent fasting (even vegetarian). It was great ... until it wasn't. At the end I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic (yes, this is common on a low carb diet), low thyroid, insomnia and anxiety. My metabolism was wrecked. I was forced to make a change. And let me tell you ... it was one of the best things I ever did for my sanity and my health. But I made on big mistake. I wasn't patient enough. If you're doing extreme diets and your health is suffering you have to give yourself time. Time for your body to adapt. To realize for the first time in years you are actually giving it nutrients and energy. And time for it to heal. I changed too many things ... too fast. And it set me back in the form of weight gain. Today things are much better. I'm eating more while losing weight and I feel so much better. But ... at the end of the day ... be patient with your healing process. P.S. You are what you eat. Well, not exactly. You are what you digest. That's right, digestion is key. It's all fine and dandy to down a green smoothie, or munch on a salad, but if you don't digest well, you won't get the full nutritional value, nor the energetic boost. In fact, poor digestion is linked to: - Brain fog - Fatigue - Anxiety - Depression - Weight gain Which makes it really important to: - Chew slowly & thoroughly - Avoid overeating - Limit liquids at meals - Create a calm & peaceful mealtime - Eat real, whole foods - Move more and incorporate relaxation techniques When you fuel your body with the proper nutrients, and actually absorb them correctly, you’ll see a significant shift in your mental and physical health. #nutrition
