Happy Earth Day! 🌎 With a Mission to Do Some Good for animals and the planet, every day can feel like Earth Day at Open Farm. But today it’s important to reflect on where we’ve been, the issues still at hand, and collectively be a bigger part of the solution. Celebrating 10 years in business this year, we’ve been able to grow our commitment to premium, ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients while also growing the positive impact we have on pets, animals, and the planet. This Earth Day, we're especially excited about our partnership with The Savory Institute. For every order you make with Open Farm is a step towards a greener tomorrow. With your support, we’re transitioning 10 acres of farmland to regenerative management thanks to our support of Savory. We also wanted to celebrate today with some of the ways our team at Open Farm has been helping pets live their happiest, healthiest lives by sourcing the highest quality ingredients, supporting farmers who treat their animals right and providing transparency to our customers. ♻️ In 2023, we improved the recyclability of our treats and freeze-dried raw product packaging. This was a major step in our journey to fulfill our goal of Zero Waste to Landfill by 2025. 🧑🌾 This year we made major strides toward our goal to advance regenerative agricultural practices across 1 million acres of farmland by 2030. We are excited to partner with the University of Missouri's Center for Regenerative Agriculture on this journey. 🐄🐓🐟 Our products have only ever contained 100% animal welfare-certified meat and sustainably sourced seafood, and we have continued to grow our partnerships with many of the world’s best farms and ranches who are at the cutting edge of animal welfare. ⚡️ We continue to purchase renewable energy for 100% of our electricity usage annually as part of our journey to reduce our Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 42% by 2030. 🤳🏼 Have you seen our QR codes on our packaging? This QR code leads you to deeper transparency on how we source the ingredients we bring to your pets’ bowls. We can’t wait to release our 2023 Impact Report this summer! So stay tuned! #earthday #sustainability #regenerativeagriculture

🐣Founder and CEO of Alchemist Farm🐣 🌿Speaker For The Natural World🌿 ✨Inspiring Business Owners and Consumers to Create Positive Ecological Change In Their Lives✨
🌿Proof of Concept🌿 . 11 years ago we set out to show the world that humane treatment of chickens and care for the planet is possible within a thriving business model. The current industry standard is to cram as many birds as possible into warehouses where they never see the light of day. The emotional, and ecological impacts of mass industrial farming in that model are astonishing and we must do better. This is a relatively new practice that started less than 60 years ago. So much harm has come from it, I believe healing can come - we just need to course correct and that is a large part of our ethos mission as a business/farm. 🌿 ✨Our farm is living proof that a business can thrive while allowing the birds to free range their whole lives after they have grown in the brooder. ✨Our farm is living proof that customers are willing and to vote with their dollars and support humane treatment of chickens. Our business thrives because of our incredible customers wanting to support better practices and industry change. ✨Our farm is living proof that a business can be zero waste, have fully biodegradable packaging and offset all shipping carbon emissions with a little creativity and a whole lot of heart. ✨Our farm is living proof that the planet does not have to suffer for a business to thrive. Economic growth at the expense of the planet is outdated thinking - we have the tools to do better and we must. 🌿 Thank you for being here on the journey with us to heal the industry and show that a better way exists. It is our dream for Alchemist to have large industry impact so that we can move the needle for the better for the birds, the planet, for us all! ❤️ . . . . . . . . . . #chickfever #springishere #farmlife #chickenmathisreal #farmlife #farmlifebestlife #familyfriendlychickens #chickshatching #rainbowchickeneggs #learnsomethingnew #homeschool #education #farmlife #hatcherylife #homesteaders #homesteading #knowyourfarmerknowyourfood #colorfuleggs #humanehatchery #regenerativeagricultue #ghibli #regenerativefarming #chickens #bakcyardchickens #weloveourflock #chickenkeeping #simpleliving #countryliving

Global sustainability and communications leader encouraging responsible business, consumption, and policies. Veteran endurance athlete.
Joel Makower at GreenBiz Group has published a strong, 3-part examination of the sustainability of the industry of raising cows for food. Joel digs in and explores the unachieved commitments of major players like McDonald's, the changing business environment for non-industrial ranchers, and the science of genetic-manipulation of the animals to reduce climate impact. What doesn't get explored in any depth, however, is the massive inefficiency of beef as a food source, the significant amount of fossil fuel and water use, the devastating impact it has on biodiversity, the insidious animal cruelty, or the huge human health toll the industry takes. We need to focus less on genome editing and more on getting people to opt out of beef entirely. #foodsystem #beef #eatsustainably #sustainability

At last!! After always heading North to visit farm businesses, today for the first time I ventured South of home! It involved a trip across the water to the IOW to visit two farm businesses as part of the Soil Association Exchange service. The Soil Association Exchange service supports farmers and the way they do business. Metrics are robustly measured across impact areas such as soil health, carbon, biodiversity, animal welfare , water and social. New metrics include Soil Cover %, Food Production and Nutrient Balances. The holistic farm measurement tool includes a package of tailored recommendations and expert advice, with which farmers are able to unlock the financial benefits of regenerative land use and sustainable farming practices. Soil Association Exchange is accessible to all farmers, regardless of their type, scale of operation or location. It was encouraging to discover today, farm businesses growing and producing food for their local community and meeting their nature-positive and circular economy ambitions. #naturepositive #climatesmartagriculture #circulareconomy #sustainablefarming

The Well Hung Butcher sources from producers who guarantee regenerative grass-fed meat. But what does this mean for both producers and consumers? ➡️ For producers, it means embracing farming practices that prioritize the health of the land and animals. By allowing cattle to graze on diverse pastures, rotating them frequently, and ensuring access to ample water sources, they contribute to soil regeneration, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration. It's a holistic approach that not only sustains but enhances the ecosystem for future generations. ➡️ For consumers, it means enjoying meat that is not only delicious but also ethically and sustainably produced. Our regenerative grass-fed meat offers superior flavor and nutrition while aligning with values of environmental stewardship and animal welfare. It's a choice that nourishes both body and conscience. Join us in celebrating this partnership between producers and consumers, where responsible farming practices meet culinary excellence. Together, we're shaping a future where every meal supports the health of the planet. 🌍🌿🍽️ Photo Credit: Sean Outram #RegenerativeFarming #SustainableMeat #WellHungButcher #SustainableAgriculture

🦢 Did you know? Ducks and geese can play a crucial role in your transitioning to regenerative farming! 🦆 Ducks and Geese are often overlooked in the regenerative playbook, but they do bring a symphony of benefits to the table. 🏅 In the quiet rustle of feathers, Ducks and Geese emerge as the unsung heroes, clinching the title of 'Most Underused Form of Poultry for Income & Sustainability on the Homestead.'! 🌍 From promoting biodiversity to enhancing soil fertility, they are nature's partners in crime for a greener, healthier planet. 🍃 Geese, our feathery friends, may seem like mischievous plant raiders, but there's method to their honking madness! 🦢 When left to roam free in the natural settings of a farm, thanks to their peculiar feeding habits, they're like organic weed whackers, gracefully pecking at greens, almost like nature's own weeding service. 🐜 Whats more? As they gracefully graze through the fields, their meticulous feeding habits act as a natural insect deterrent, creating a balanced ecosystem where pests take flight in the face of our feathery friends. 👏 What sets Geese and Ducks apart in the regenerative farm ballet is their contribution to soil health. 💩 Their droppings, scattered across the fields, act as a powerful natural nitrogen-rich fertilizer, enriching the soil with nutrients and promoting a thriving ecosystem. 🦢 Embrace their quirks, dance with their honks, and witness the magic they bring to your regenerative haven. 💚 By integrating animals like Ducks and Geese into our farming tapestry, we not only sow the seeds of sustainability but also reap the fruits of a resilient and balanced ecosystem. __________________________________ 📲👉Follow me for insights into building inclusive, resilient agrifood systems that foster sustainable and regenerative agriculture! 🦆#RegenerativeFarming #NatureHarmony #HonkHarmony #CropCare 🦢

Here we are, at the crossroads of intelligent farming and environmental conservation. We are seeing a remarkable resurgence of traditional practices, one of which is the age-old art of beekeeping. 🐝✨ Why this sudden buzz around beekeeping, you may ask? 🤔 Creating a Sustainable Future: Hive away from synthetic substitutes; beekeeping plays a pivotal role in our eco-system. With 75% of the world's food crops reliant to some extent on pollination, bees pave our way to sustainability. Unveiling Commercial Viability: No sting in this tale folks! Beyond the jar of golden honey lies a treasure trove of products - from beeswax used in manufacturing to propolis in health supplementation. A Healing Touch: It may just be a drop in the honey pot, but apiary products boast formidable health benefits. 🍯 Now here's where it gets interesting. Many believe that beekeeping is a complex process, best left to experts. And while expertise plays a critical role, with the right tools, knowledge, and a pinch of dedication, anyone can dance the jitterbug of beekeeping. 💃🕺 Step One: Familiarizing yourself with the local regulations regarding beekeeping. Step Two: Investing in the Essentials. Hive boxes, smoker, protective gear – your beekeeping starter kit. Step Three: Understanding your bees. It’s not just about checking in, but understanding their behaviour, recognising signs of distress, and knowing when to intervene. At 99hives, we strive to capture the essence of this ancient tradition, empowering individuals to play their part in both securing their livelihood and conserving the environment. The hive mind believes in promoting the exchange of knowledge, innovation, and the cultivation of a community bonded by a shared mission. So why not take the plunge? 🏊♀️ It’s about embracing a hive-culture that promises environmental balance and a sustainable future. 🔔If Beekeeping has sparked your interest, join us in our journey to sustainability. Share, Comment, Connect! #99hives #beekeeping #sustainability #agritech #agriculture Remember, the art of beekeeping isn't just about a honey-do list. It's about nectar-life balance! 🐝💛

18 BILLION ANIMALS A YEAR: THEY DIE, BUT NEVER END UP ON OUR PLATE. HOW TO TELL MY CHILDREN? START DESIGNING YOUR LIVE! This shocking number is difficult if not impossible to justify to our children (if not to anybody). We need to change our behaviors and values towards humanity, we can design our lives towards a true, better place. Source: https://lnkd.in/d8dxuesk Here is my personal design approach to whom, that wants to contribute to a better treatment of animals, reduced impact on climate change due to the farming with animals (animal manure count for 7 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions) and more space for land to nourish the world population (78% of global land is used for livestock farming and feeding and 91% of destroyed Amazonas forest are used for for animal farming): 1. Buy more conscious and smaller portions; 30% of all our food we buy gets into the bin (at least in Western countries). Watch the Nexflix serie "Live to 100. Secrets of the blue zones". 2. Try to buy ecological meat and trace the source of the meat; "Follow Food" in Germany does a great job! 3. Chose restaurants with a zero waste policy and an ecological food offer; the latter two are more expensive I know but in combination with 1. will compensate your spendings enough. Cool websites as "Eco and Beyond" and the App "Carbon Donut" will guide you. 4. Try to reduce your meat consumption. You will get enough of all the nutritions if you just let our meat one day a week. 5. Try to switch towards vegetarian or pescatarian food habits; they have a much higher live expectation. Nothing so difficult to change your behavior I know, try the design methodology "Kaizen" and ask yourself everyday, "what possible smallest step can I take TODAY to make the change happen". Good luck, explore and try, and after that we can sleep probably a bit better and explain and inspire our children, our future! #design #food #humanbehavior #betterforyou #betterworld
