“I wanted to use sports to enable people to get to places where they've never been before. Because basketball literally changed my life.” Charlotte Candice Thomas-Rowe, a professional basketball player, who started Hurdles2Hoops, which engages asylum seekers and refugees in London with physical activity sessions and educational workshops to promote better health and well-being, and to tackle exclusion. ℹ️ https://ow.ly/AzGI50QQVmT #IWD

Warm fuzzy glow time… Lord's Taverners is special. They exist “to empower and positively impact the lives of young people facing the challenges of inequality” I absolutely ❤️ LOVE ❤️ that they exist and the work they do. It therefore means ‘extra’ to be partnering with them ensuring that periods are easily addressed in a relaxed and positive way as part of all their programmes. Their programmes are sadly much needed; 4.3m people aged 8-18 are at risk of inequality in England and Wales and 1.2m young people with a disability rarely or simply don’t access sport at all. Sports is a positive glue, it brings people together, it aligns values and spirits, it encourages, develops confidence, brings fun to people, in the case of Lord's Taverners, it helps to bring all this to arguably those who need it the most using the fabulous game of cricket as its conduit. The synergy of what we want to achieve is aligned and wonderful. Working with Katie Holland has honestly been a privilege, such warmth and passion and drive to accomplish great things. Small changes BIG impact. Katie Holland's word's make Team Fab and I feel proud today: “We are thrilled to be partnering with FabLittleBag, which is an exciting and essential step in our commitment to including and empowering more women and girls through cricket. During focus groups last year, over half of our female participants told us that periods were a barrier to them and their friends playing cricket. No girl should miss doing something they enjoy because of their period; by partnering with FabLittleBag, and providing free period products and FLB's to our young people at every session, we are helping to remove this barrier to participation.” #cricket #inclusivity #periods #sports #menstruation #charity Neil Dalrymple Gary Young Leshia Hawkins Donna Staniland Nigel Purveur Chris Stott Michelle Ringland Jayne H. Rick Hansen is a Canadian Paralympian, philanthropist, and activist for individuals with disabilities. As a teenager, Hansen sustained a spinal injury during a car accident which left him paraplegic. During his time in university at the University of British Columbia, he won wheelchair volleyball and basketball games at a national level. He competed in the 1980 and 1984 Paralympics in wheelchair racing and won 6 medals (3x Gold, 2x Silver, 1x Bronze). In 1985, inspired by Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope, Hansen embarked on a journey of his own. Over the course of his 26 month26-month long, Man in Motion world tour, Hansen traversed over 40,000km in 34 countries in 4 continents and raised $26 million for spinal cord injury research. In 1988, Hansen founded the Rick Hansen Foundation; he is currently CEO of the organization, which and it has raised over $200 million for spinal cord injury research. Today, Hansen continues to advocate for the disability community, fights to improve the quality of life for the disabled, and combats stigma surrounding disability. #agilik #StandTallerWalkStronger #BionicPower #exoskeleton #exoskeletons #augmentation #robotics #rehabrobotics #roboticsengineering #emergingtech #emergingtechnology #innovation #researchanddevelopment #technologytrends #advancedtechnology #innovationtechnology #wearabletech #medicaldevice #CPstrong #cerebralpalsy #cerebralpalsyawareness #cerebralpalsykids #cerebralpalsywarrior #cerebralpalsymom #cerebralpalsystrong #cerebralpalsyawarenessmonth

Youth and Leadership Development | Cross-Cultural Management | International Development | Strategic Planning
As many of you in my network know, sports for development - basketball, in particular - is a huge passion of mine. I spend much of my time on nights, weekends, and vacations invovled in community sports. It is a great honor to support basketball programing that serves populations that often times don't have the chance to engage in sports. One of the things that always amazes me is the platform for growth that often exists within sports, and how seemingly small seeds that we plant can grow into something great. Some time ago, I helped support a community basketball event for young women on International Women's Day. During that event, many of the participants were invited to share their thoughts on "breaking the bias" in sports with their community. One of the participants gave an unexpectedly impassioned speech about the need for more opporutnities opportunities for young women in her community to play basketball. I believe that we witnessed a young woman stepping into her natural leadership ability in that moment. Fast-forward 18 months, and that young woman now creates space for and coaches basketball for 48 girls every week, is a positive-coaching practitioner, and is a role model in her community. Sports can provide an important space for young people to connect, stay healthy, learn important life lessons, and grow into their leadership abilities, but only when the right spaces exist. ________________________________________________________________________ What has been your experience with community sports? How have community sports helped you or those around you grow, learn, and succeed? What do you wish there was more of in your community? ________________________________________________________________________ I am supporting another upcoming event, this time for International Day of the Girl Child, and I invite you to support this event, as well! https://lnkd.in/ewbnXDrp

:: BRAND LEADERSHIP IS GENERATED IN MANY WAYS :: Whether you’ve built or are building a company brand or personal brand there are many strategies for becoming a brand leader in your profession or sector/industry. My point of view is that the last strategy to focus on if you want to become a brand leader is the strategy of becoming THE best or THE leader of the pack. That’s because there can ONLY BE ONE, which means your chances of succeeding are slim. Instead, choose a different strategy for standing out: ➡️ Become a stand out employer ➡️ Improve the ways things are done in your industry for the people you serve ➡️ Become a community builder in you sector that promotes collaborative efforts that make your whole industry stronger ➡️ Start a foundation that give back to something you’re passionate about Even better - work to combine some of these strategies just like Christine Sinclair has!
Last week, Christine Sinclair — the GOAT of Canadian soccer, played her final game to close her international career. Along with this special night, she announced the launch of her foundation, a donor advised fund at Vancouver Foundation, dedicated to inspiring and empowering Girls with Goals. We are incredibly honoured to be supporting Christine in this significant milestone to cement her legacy! Read more: https://lnkd.in/egdnX-Qt

Legendary basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar isn't just known for his signature skyhook. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently auctioned off his championship rings, MVP trophies, and other memorabilia for a staggering $2.8 million. But what truly sets this story apart is how Abdul-Jabbar plans to use the proceeds: to fund a youth education program. Abdul-Jabbar's decision highlights the importance of giving back and inspiring future generations. His quote is more powerful "when it comes to choosing between storing a championship ring or trophy in a room, or providing kids with an opportunity to change their lives, the choice is pretty simple, Sell it all." As professionals, we all have the opportunity to use our resources and influence to make a positive impact. #kareemabduljabbar #philanthropy #education #youthdevelopment #1billiontree #climatechange
