Interesting article. Certainly in my 30 year career, I have seen titles become increasingly devalued all the way down the line, and they vary enormously between companies. Larger companies seem a bit more disciplined about titles but smaller/mid size not so much. Meanwhile I see examples of middle managers getting bigger titles but often not learning what leadership really means. Not learning these skills and switching their mindset from individual contributors to management and eventually leadership is not helpful to their careers and detrimental to companies.
