🕰 🔎 December 2019, ‘𝐼𝑠 Daniel 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑐𝑢𝑡 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑟𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡? 𝑆ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑤𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑑𝑖𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ ℎ𝑖𝑚?’
A strange way to start an appreciation post, I know, but I like to keep Dan on his toes… and I wanted to get your attention...
It was also a genuine conversation that Ben and I had as we approached the end of FY ’19.
Why am I telling you this?
Hopefully to demonstrate the culture of development we've work so hard to cultivate at JBA... maybe to motivate a few people out there... and definitely to celebrate a certain someone!
Back to the story...
Dan had just finished his first full year with JBAndrews and despite being extremely determined and hardworking he had done only 26% of his annual target
Roll the clock forward 4 years and Dan has averaged £40k per period since January ‘20… which, for those of you outside of the recruitment world, means he has 𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒅 300% of his sales target for 4 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕!
Just last week, Dan went through the £2m mark with JBAndrews, 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒔𝒕 to get there by 9 months (we won’t mention who he took that record from…) and he has smashed that record despite getting off to such a slow start!
As our Head of Talent & Wellbeing, Alex put it, ‘it can take you time to find your feet, but if you do the basics well, put in hard graft and trust the process, you WILL be successful here’.
Alex is right, but I wanted to take a little more time to reflect on what I think has made Dan so successful:
1. 𝐻𝑖𝑠 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘 𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑐 𝑖𝑠 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑛𝑜𝑛𝑒. Hours in the office, at home or on a plane, he makes the most of every minute.
2. 𝐻𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑠 𝑠𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑡. Whether its multi-channel sales, collaborating with his team on vacancies or utilising technology
3. 𝐻𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑏𝑒𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑒 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑐𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠. Dan embodies the partnerships focus of our mantra.
4. 𝐻𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑒𝑥𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑙𝑦 𝑑𝑒𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑, 𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑎ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑑, which allows him to make the most of his extraordinary work ethic.
5. 𝐻𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑒𝑥𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑙𝑦 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒. In the office, on the golf course, the padel court he really hates losing (something we are working on!)
6. 𝘏𝘦. 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴. 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨.
Dan’s success story should be motivating for anyone in a new job and perhaps not succeeding to the level they had hoped (recruitment or otherwise) – when combined with the right skills… competitiveness, determination and resilience will get you a long way!
So to answer my own question from 4 years ago… 𝐲𝐞𝐬… his hard work, determination, natural sales acumen and continuous desire to win… make Dan 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 for recruitment!
Very very well-done Daniel, time to get a member of your own team to break your records!
